Samples

While I was working on the second song I had hit a standstill and needed help finding something to make the song move, it wasn’t until Ben sat down to listen to what I had made and he suggested adding something to the track to make it sound loads better.

After Ben walked me through the process of getting samples from splice and putting them into the song I it was good to see how the drums build up and make the bass sound just a little bit better and as well as that we also added some other textures to make the song just a little better. We downloaded a pack that included one-shots textures drum fillers bass sound’s and some others we only used drums tambourines, a bass slap and cowbells. The sounds were manly computer made like the kick and the snare were definitely fake but the tambourine was real and so was the cowbell.

At first, I didn’t like the idea of using samples because I was more of a make your own beat and texture because I knew where to places something and how long it is going to be but when I was told about the large library and the different sounds and textures from different genes made from professional producers around the world really gives starter musicians help spark their creativity when they need help making a song creating a melody or writing a bridge.

Writing a song around samples seems like the future of music to use other people’s melodies or one shots are a simple way to make music now that you can map out a sample pack by how you feel or what type of music you want to make I wasn’t sold on the idea but after seeing that I can make a drum sequence with only a few samples I thought about focusing my music making by samples with legendary music producers and writers like Kanye West uses samples in his song Bound 2 the original is from Ponderosa Twins Plus One – Bound.

In the ’80s musicians used drum machines which were sampled and mixed around with their own sound. Bands like U2 def leppard and meany others both used drum machine’s U2 used there’s in with or without you and def leppard used a fairlight to record there song even Phil collins used a Roland CR-78 in In The Air Tonight.

For example many things where taken to use as samples not just instruments but now producers use song and little snippets of songs as samples, like the song One More Time by daft punk which was sampled from More Spell On You by Eddie Johns.
