At the start of the project I was dead set on what I was going to do and how I was going to do it, I was ready for anything to be thrown at me I was confident, but when I got to the halfway point I realised that there was no way I was going to finish a single and a music video and have both ready for the showcase I had to rethink what I was going to do.
For the first couple of weeks at the start of the project, I asked to borrow an audio interface from college to record from home because I didn’t like the idea of recording at college so recording at home was something I had wanted to do. I didn’t really see the point of bringing my instrument into college with the correct equipment at home and I was more comfortable at home than at college. But it did have its hard times when recording, without proper guidance the recordings weren’t their best but I still made due and the recordings were just not professional quality and the vocals weren’t that bad either.
Another problem happened, when I remember that I needed to finish the song so I can make the music video and as the weeks came close to the halfway point it came evident that the song wouldn’t be finished in time so during the two weeks off in the middle of the project I thought about the project and what I could do to fix what I did so during the holiday I thought about another option and I came up with the idea of a second song.
So I had to change my ways and go against my plan and come up with a new idea halfway through the project and that was when I thought about a second song instead of a music video because I can make a song easy on garage band or logic pro X so a second song was the safest option to at least get a decent grade. That was all I needed so I started working on my second song every day for 3 weeks and it got good really good but then realised that I made a song for the showcase, and I looked back on it and it was far too difficult to have the song and music video finished and not ready for the upcoming showcase.
So then all my attention went to my second song and finish that to give to the showcase instead of the first song, so I got Barbora to sing on the second track and mix the song to complete it for the showcase. But I still had time to go back to my first song and see if I can fix it in any way or scavenge the song into something new, so I got rid of the vocals and the guitar and added lead synths and synth PAD.
Then I had to make some artwork to go with the song because they can’t use a black screen, so I went to Paul for help with the artwork on the song, I settled on the background out of focus and the Band logo in the bottom with a sound wave going to just show something moving to impress the watchers and maybe the listeners.
It was the first time for me when collaborating with anyone when making a song, I remember doing the show on project 1 but I was ok with working in a band it was making music where I wanted to work alone and have all the say in things but I was told that I could have all the say in things but just to ask people if they are willing to contribute to the track whether it’s playing the guitar or singing. But asking them was the problem for me because I didn’t like disrupting people or distracting them with my work and not there’s.
But I asked Barbora if she was willing to sing and provide lyrics for my track not only did she help out but she wrote the lyrics and sang them in under 15 minutes, which made the song sound even better than before so I do need to give thanks to Barbora for saving the song and making it sound 10 times better and its because of her that I will have been able to send out a song I am proud to send off and be listened too.
The showcase as a whole has been quite a nerve-wracking experience because working somewhat independently with a deadline had its moments of worry but I did enjoy working with others to make a song. The help we got to make the song and to mix was nice to have since our studio project was cancelled due to Covid but I think we all managed with the help we were given by our tutors.
