On my first listen to Beth’s theme I really did like the composition and the feel of the song. The music was meant to go with the character and who she feels during the show and I think that the composer did an amazing job at expressing this, after the second listen to the song I started to think about the meaning of the song and the character in the show and after finding out the characters son died the song sounded like Beth was griff stricken at the start of the score and midway through when the other instruments came in it signified that Beth realises that she can still remember the good times but after that, the instruments cut out and it’s just the piano it’s like she was thrown back into reality and her son is still gone and she will never get new memories.
Olafur Arnold composed Beths theme and there are some aspects of the score which i really do like and would like to use in my composition like the Piano only doing the same chords which are used through out the song as everything else is expressed and going through there own parts it is simple but it sounds different and new. I also like how the song goes through its ups and downs and it sounds and feels like a story being told through there instruments, in my opinion the most important element a composition is rhythm and melody and Harmony
