This first thing I came up with in this project was the beginning melody but the hardest part was finding out the best sound to use or an instrument that sounds well with the melody.
The classic electronic piano in my mind was the best option for me to use. Although, in some areas the sound makes it sound to much pop which is a sound I wanted to avoide but everyone who heard the song gave it the same name so it will be best to work with it then to fight it.
After creating a melody the hardest part was breaking off form it and moving to create a chord progression that fits the melody along with a catchy riff that compliments the chords and in this I think I found the best way to do that in a way that I find extremely satisfying.
As well as the chords the PAD synths in the back are what I feel serves as a way to not make it seem so silent in the back so if you try move past from the chords theirs that to fall back on.
After making the Melody, chords and PADs the next step was making the beat behind it. I was having trouble coming up with an appropriate drum beat to fit the melody but Lewis showed me that you can isolate a bar and make something in that and loop it which helped when trying to come up with a beat.
As I finished making the drum beat for he melody I figured that there needed to be something that would be different about the drums in the verse, so instead of just copying the drums over I added a small but significant detail that helped add a whole different feel to the the drums.
After the drum beat it was time to add the bass line. Creating the bass line was really difficult especially in the beginning melody because the sound was already being altered by adding a beginning drum beat so a bass line was going to be hard, but in the end I decided that a bass line that directly corresponded with the melody would be drowned out so adding a bass riff would be the only thing that wont drastically ruin the track, but it will give the listener a new part other then hearing the same melody twice with the same drum beat
Another thing you notice is, I added snaps to the chorus this already sounded good but I decided that if you drowned the snaps with reverb you could come up with a different sound altogether adding more of a vibe to the chores.
This is the bridge of the track right after the chorus of the last image. In the bridge coming up with a new part seemed straight forward as in the verse it’s the same chord progression but I used diminished chords and a mixture of others so instead of following that I decide that I would use
So far I have made it to the bridge and I have to make some bass work in the song a lot of the time adding a bass line was the hardest part of the song
I still need a name for the song but I figured I should wait for lyrics to determine them they should be in a couple of days but until then I added some texture to the song by adding clicks to some areas
This is the final Demo image after I added the structure of the song still need vocals then I need to mix and master in after that it should be finished
After Nick had a look at what I did so far ha mentioned that the structure was wrong for a pop song so we changed that and extended some of the bars and cut some of the music to fit and make sense now I need the vocals and lyrics if I end up doing that and then its mixing and mastering.
After O finished the song I started the mixing process. The first thing I did was place all the instruments in the right order by there instrument i.e. Keys would fall under keyboard and drums under percussion.
Then after categorising and colouring the music I began making the EQ and Reverb to the instruments that need it also compression was added to the bass.
After that it was trying to level out the volume as to not make it clip over 0 and let it fall just under but then to raise it during the mastering process.
After the mixing was finished I began the mastering process with the assist from Lewis we raised the gain and volume of the entire track ready for the showcase.
This was what the track sounded like post mastering notice the instruments and how the track as a whole is not so loud
After the master the tracks gain was lifted and gives the track more of a finished and louder.
