The first week of the project was dedicated to just research and not a lot of production which is a change from last year because I have already learned more production techniques than I did last year and some I will use in this performance. In the first week alone I think I have improved a lot from last time with planning, research and ideas, last time was good to learn how to work under pressure this will help in the future but already I don’t see myself slowing down or wasting time from changing my plan half way through and leaving me to think of an alternative.
I found a lot of useful information in my research on of which is a sidechain this allows the bass from the bass and kick drum to not clash and make the music sound so when the bass is played and its the same time as the kick drum the bass will reduce to allow the kick drum to act on it’s behalf.
Another useful production technique I found was a vocal manipulator called stuttered vocal this allows the producer to manipulate vocals and make them stutter to add a different sound in the chorus or behind the main vocal where ever the producer decides
JOURNAL
I am doing better than last year, my knowledge of my influence and where I want to take my track with their music in mind, along side my understanding of my influence I have improved my library of samples which is one thing I wanted to get better at and understand more so this will be better
One thing which I am worried about is using Ableton this is the first time using the DAW and I don’t feel confident at all yet my tutor seems keen on me using I am unsure how I will work around this during the final project it most probably will waste time, I can see that if it gets bad I will drop Ableton to ensure I finish my project even to the dismay of my tutor
Next week, I hope to get a start in my first song. I don’t want to pressure results but if I want a piece of satisfactory work something I am proud of I need to at least be somewhere at these early stages of the project, I have the research and practice to make something but looking through my demos was a bad idea to start with because the work I did before is nothing like the work I want to make now. On Monday I will ask my tutor Lewis for help making the chords because I need to at least start simple before making good music. Lewis proposed a good idea and I think Nick tried to reinforce this I maybe need to play around with my vises and programs I have before worrying myself with making what I want.
I think the hardest part of my project would be using my research in my music I can find a lot of research but using it is another thing completely but I am willing to learn and follow.
I have a very good idea as to what I am doing I have a memory stick of things I can use
