Games

Audio, graphics and film can play a key part in games as its used to create the gaming experience a lot better for the player. Audio is used in games for example gun sounds and bullet sound effects in call of duty to show the gun is shooting and makes it look realistic and make the experience better as it feels more immersive which is why call of duty is very popular and fun as it includes audio. Also without audio the game play experience may not feel right and the player may get bored as it may not be immersive and many game designers can use audio through Foley create and build tension and add emotion which makes the experience more immersive for the player.

Graphics are also used in games as without these the games may feel bland and the player may get bored as this may be the most important part in a game. graphics can consist of the player, background and props or textures. Graphics can be created using many software such as Photoshop or a 3D software for example you can create a model of a character.

Films are also used in video games to create cut scenes or an advisement for the game to drive sales and promote the game. Also cut scenes create an better experience a lot better as it makes it more immersive and may drive the story as it allows the player to follow a clear narrative which may make them want to carry on playing and gets their attention.

Game Idea

My game idea is creating a platform game which is based of super Mario and have a level with platforms and monsters with obstructions to make sure its not very easy when completing the level and making sure the player doesn’t complete the level very quick as this can be boring. Also there is a key goal which the player must complete by collecting a key within the level to open a door and escape and must collect all the coins within the level which then the level is completed as this will make it more fun as the player has a goal. Furthermore if the player dies within the level they will re spawn at the beginning of the level but the progress will remain the same.

This is my initial game design of my level:

In this task I had to draw my idea of my game on 4 A4 pieces of paper which shows my layout and how my game will look like and work. Also, I labelled my ideas to show what they represent for example I drew a pool of lava underneath some of the tiles and labelled it “LAVA” to show what it represents which makes it easier for me and the marker.

Some of the problems I faced was thinking of an idea of my game that I’m capable of creating and is good. Also, when I created my draft some of the tiles may have been too far from each other which doesn’t allow the player to jump on it due to it being too far. My solution was I created the platforms closer and much more reachable for the player allowing them to make the jump.
