Match Cutting

A match cut is a cut from one shot to another where the composition is similar and matched by the action or scene. For example, if there is a fight between two people the shot may go from a long shot to a medium shot or a close shot to one of the fighters. The cut here matches the actions. This could also be used by cutting to another scene, but the objects are matched and in the same place.

Action edit:

Action edit (continuity edit) is the process where you combine and put together shots or different objects of a single shot used in a sequence which keeps the audience’s attention to the story through location and time. This editing should seem seamless or invisible and should allow the editor to keep the audience’s attention.

The Directional Edit:

This is the direction the objects or actors appear to be moving from the view of a camera or the audience. However, the shot should keep the consistency to avoid confusion in the audience.

The Form edit:

A form edit is a cut between similar shapes or sounds of the shot. For example, a cut from a shot of a glass of water to the ocean.

Match cut

In this match, I am walking and put my hand up against the camera to show a change in location which when I take my hand away from the camera which shows I’m in a new location. Here I tried to create a form edit which the action of me putting my hand against the camera was similar to me taking my hand away.

cross cut

In this cross-cut video, I am playing a role as a criminal which I break into a room and trash everything. To the audience, it seems that the police are coming to the scene whilst I trash everything but this happened at a different time and when the police entered the room I was gone. The purpose was to deceive the audience thinking that the criminal may get caught

Music video:

The song that i chose is called “maze” by juice wrld as i can create a music video for this using many methods and techniques. This song is about how he is stuck in a maze both psychologically and physically and feels he is stuck in the same pattern and trying to escape.

One of his lyrics “i’m tormented everyday” shows how he is being affected everyday and feels like he is running in a maze in his mind constantly. This shows that there is no escape from this maze as it feels like a nightmare which questions will he ever escape.

For this idea i will wake up in a building that i’m not familiar with and i will be lost and will feel like a i’m stuck in a maze and trying to escape but when i open doors and walk through i end up back in the same position which feels like i cant escape and tuck in this never ending maze. However i find a huge door which shows a exit sign and as i open the door i wake up from a dream. This allows me to use many cuts such as jump cuts and a match cut and a cross cut which tricks the audience as its all in my head.
