I had a look at some research about girl gamers. The research suggested that girls are now playing and buying more games. This makes me feel good and makes me think that more games should incorporate female characters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘In 2020, women accounted for nearly 41% of all gamers in the United States. And in Asia, which accounts for 48% of the world\u2019s total gaming revenue, women now make up 40-45% of the Asian gaming population<\/a>, according to Google and Niko Partners. ‘ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

his shows that the average age of a gamer is 31. I would like my audience to be young women ages 15-25, so this tells me that I must use different methods to appeal to younger people.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Primary Research<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I asked some female peers a few questions about video games to see what kind of games they like to play and how they think that female gamers are represented in the media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The questions I asked were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are you favourite games to play?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do you choose to play these games><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long have you been playing video games?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you think female gamers are represented in the media?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I asked people between the ages of 18 – 30. I got some different answers and it allowed me to look into different styles of games.

Two people said that female gamers are often sexualised. This is something I would like to combat in my designs as I feel this is bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to look at some representation of female characters in video games. Above are some images of girl characters in a range of games. The top two images are from a charity that show unrealistic images of women and have edited them to be more real. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think that the women look unrealistic because they don’t look real and they don’t look like the girls we see everyday in real life. I think this is bad because girls can not relate to these unrealistic images. I would like to make graphics that show the diversity of women and show girls with disabilities, different faiths, ages, race and body types. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here I have looked at different kind of girl characters that I could use in my design. I like these images because they show more real representation than the characters in other video games above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here I have looked at different kind of characters that are not people. I thought it might be cute to have some characters that are animals or fictional. People thought that the dinosaur was cute. The dinosaur is my favourite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moodboard<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have created four different moodboards to experiment with different colours and images that I liked. I chose the colour purple because this is a colour used in products branded at women. I used the colour black because I think it looks nice and professional and it is used in a lot of video game designs. I used the colour pink because it’s a kind of girlie colour that is familiarised with women and the colour green because this is a bright colour and is considered more gender neutral. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my purple moodboard. I use images from games and photographs. I have also included pixilated graphics. I like the use of colour on here because it’s bright. There’s nothing I don’t really like about it and i think this colour would work as part of my design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chose the colour black because it is used in a lot of games. I also associate the colour black with horror and gothic games. I do like this moodboard because I like the cat character. I don’t like that the moodboard isn’t bright and engaging and i think it would blend in and not stand out if i used the colour black as the basis for my design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The colour pink is associated with girls in most designs. I wanted to experiment with the colour pink and used images from games that are in shades of pink. I like this moodboard because it is cute. The dinosaur character is very cute and I think my audience would like this. I don’t like the headphones because I think the design is too simple. I would like to use the dinosaur in my campaign and some elements of pink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I used the colour green as I wear this shade of green a lot and I think it is bright and fresh. It has plants, I like these but i don’t think it is as relevant to gaming. I would like to use the controller in my design. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casey Shaw ‘ I think the colours are bright, clean and fresh. I think people would respond well to this design’ (30 – Female) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purple and Green were voted the two best designs in my class. People liked the gaming references in the purple moodboard and the peaceful and calming elements in the green moodboard. I asked people of different genders and ages and I aim to incoporate bits from the purple and green moodboards to create my design and appeal to my target audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Logo designs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the research of my moodboards, I started to experiment with logo designs. I made four logo designs that used different images ands fonts and colours to try and showcase my brand. I took inspirations from fonts from arcade games and playstation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This log uses a font in the style of Arcade Games. It has a controller which I like and represents gaming. I don’t like the colour of the controller bit I like the colour of the font.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This log uses a modified image of pacman and a lilac font and circle. I like this one but I don’t want to use a character already invented and would like to use my own character. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don’t like this font because it’s hard to read. I do like the colour and might use this in my design. I like the image and think it is effective on a simple logo but I want to use a character instead as it adds more personality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like the diamond design in this one – it uses pink and purple. I like the font because it’s simple to read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my favourite logo. I have used the easy to read font and the dinosaur logo that everyone liked. I think I should put some more leaves and greenery in the design that people liked from the green moodboard and then it will be finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
