Rehearsals

Week 1 Rehearsals

This week, during rehearsals, we practiced “Black Sheep” by Metric. I play bass on this track. I already know how to play this song because I learned it back when I started learning Guitar/Bass. Aimee’s singing isn’t bad, she just needs to practice projecting her voice and singing a bit louder. Faye could also use some practice, but it was alright for our first practice. The same goes for Cameron, we all just need more practice. I think we can all master this song by week 3.

Week 2 Rehearsals

Week 2 went pretty well. We made a lot of progress with “Black Sheep,” but we need to work on the rhythmic accuracy in the beginning of the song. The intro sounds off-beat, and as the song progresses, the beat gets better. Additionally, Faye is slightly off-beat with the drums in the intro, so we need to focus on improving the intro and staying on beat next week.

Aimee’s vocals in the verse are slightly off-key, but in the chorus, they are solid, and she stays in key even during the louder parts of the song, which is really good. However, she needs to work on the verse.

We also need to work on the transition from the chorus to the verse at one point in the song, as well as the timing and staying on beat.

This week we rehearsed with John on drums, He did his best to play the drums but we still managed to have a successful day day of rehearsals. What we need to work on is getting the guitar and bass tones down and having them match as much as possible to the original songs. I will do this by looking at bass forums to get the tone that I will be looking for.
Another thing is for Aimee to practice her singing and these songs require her to sing lower in Hung up, Me and Faye had to use pitch shift pedals to shift our tone by one semitone to match her vocal range.

I feel like this week was our best week of rehearsal. We have Evan on drums now which is good for me because I can adapt to what the drums are playing in these songs.
There is some room for improvement mainly in rehearsing Spellbound in our own time as we didn’t have enough time to rehearse this song. Another point to improve on, For me is to be ready to turn on some of the pedals on my multi-effect pedal as I forgot to turn on pitch shift and only turned it on during the ending of the song.
