Akira Toriyama
1. Akira Toriyama is a Japanese artist who got his inspirations from drawings. His early life was him drawing his friends until he entered a competition that made him win a prize at the local art studio. He began taking art very seriously and soon his amazing work and projects made him win prizes and awards mainly for comics and animation series. He was recognised for the comic and animation series Dragon Ball Z in 1997 having sold 300 million copies worldwide.
2. He used lots of techniques when drawing his comics and characters. He would use a G pen to draw and for colouring he would use a drawing brush. He got his ideas from other companies, series and programmes such as Walt Disney. He even stated he was influenced by an animator Toyoo Ashida.
3. I like the artwork he creates because it’s something totally different from other mainstream designs. His style uses bright and vivid colours and is recognised as a lose rounded and innocent look to his created animation characters.
H.R Giger
- H.R Giger was a swiss artist that was into special effects and painting. He won awards such as an academy award for best achievement in visual effects for the film Alien and won an Oscar in 1980 for his concept designs for the sci-fi characters. He was even admitted to the Science Fiction and Fantasy hall of fame in 2013.
- Giger started off with small ink drawings before going onto oil painting. He worked with airbrushes, pastels, markers and ink. He was influenced by famous painters.
- I like the sci-fi artwork he has produced because its very interesting and futuristic. I liked the way he created the alien concept designs with the colour green making them stand out with their big heads and devilish smile. I’m also impressed by his creative, stylistic and crazy biomechanical designs which were used in various movies, buildings and even furniture.
Syd Mead
- Syd Mead was an industrial designer and a futuristic artist. He was skilled at drawing at a very young age. In High school he could draw variety of things such as animals, humans and shapes. He attended Art centre School in 1959 where he graduated. He was even part of the Ford company which eventually led him to many other opportunities later in his life. He was part of films like Tron, Star Trek, Aliens, Blade runner and mission impossible 3. He died in December 30th 2019
- He used a lot of different techniques when drawing characters and objects, such as using the brush technique, using pencils, paint and ink. He used to get his ideas and inspiration from films and magazines. This is what gave him a futuristic science fiction mindset.
- I like the work he has produced because majority of his work has been futuristic. I like the characters he had produced for the Tron movie, it shows the variety of florescent colours and game visuals he had used in his work. Just by looking at the film itself you can see the bright colours such as blue and orange which the artist used to make the whole structure of the film stand out including the characters. His concept designs were original and even today are seen as modern futuristic designs that cannot be matched.
For Bot designs and characters, I had really got used to photoshop more , I had researched on how to use photoshop correctly with photoshop skills such as layering and editing which helped me design these bots .In lesson Kul had gone through some of the skills in order to create these but most of the effort came from past experiences with it and doing it a lot more at home. This was very effective and helped me understand photoshop much more with using more skills to get this done. I had even done sticking and glue skills in school so that part of that task was easy, that skill was already there for me when doing that part of the task.
For the bot designs and characters, I had downloaded images off google which were robots which would be in use for help and ideas, I had got magazines and catalogues to cut out from which would be in use for my robots , I had gotten help from my class mates for ideas and had gotten help from Kul on learning how to put these things into order. I had even gotten help from my family members to gain more ideas for creating these robots. All these very effective because if I hadn’t done these, I wouldn’t have been able to create 6 robots which were done in detail and to its correct way. All this help opened new skills for me in using photoshop and creating more ideas of out the blue.
