FMP : Podcast Evaluation

The research helped me in many different ways. One of the ways was that it gave me an idea on how I wanted my podcast to be like, that was because I went on YouTube and I was researching different podcasts and watching them to get a clear idea on how I wanted my podcast to be like. The research gave me clear ideas , inspiration and clarity. I learnt quite a few things from doing research. For example I Didn’t know how to write a script for my podcast , I had to look up how to write a script on Google to get a clear idea on how I was going to lay it out and what I was going to say when doing my podcast.Going on YouTube and looking at different Podcasts gave me an idea on what to say, how to speak when doing a podcast and when to ask my questions during a podcast and what to say to be clear and effective.

When doing my research I learnt how to understand and integrate resources gleaned through various means. I Learnt how to mix audio on garage band and what tools to use to make the audio sound much clearer. When doing my research I learnt how to deliver a podcast in a informal way to suit my audience.I also learnt how to write a script in the correct manor and way. I learnt how Bradford got the city of culture and how they got it. I even learnt about the city’s attractions in Bradford and why many people go there and visit there.I learnt how to edit by using compression and I also learnt how to use the multi cam which was very efficient and effective for my podcast.I learnt the different types of podcasts I could do , I learnt more Bradford’s history in general and the shopping experiences in Bradford. Through my research I learnt that Bradford is the youngest city in the Uk with a 29% of the population being under 20 and nearly quater being under the age of 16 which was very interesting for me to take in.

But when doing my research I could have added more information about the different podcasts I could have chose and wrote about them , I could have even added more graphs and percentages on mental health in general. My research could have been done more quickly because I spent like 3 days completing the research so the research could have been done much more quicker than usual.

When planning my podcast I gained a huge amount of knowledge and skills and also learnt from the mistakes I made whilst planning my podcast. When planning my podcast I had a few ideas and topics that I wanted to do my podcast on , one of them being music , the other being movies and lastly the City of Culture Bradford. I had saw a few podcasts on YouTube for me to come to my final decision which was doing it about City of Culture Bradford.

Furthermore , I had wrote a script and proposal for my planning and production , I had even done a mind-map around what topics I wanted to do my podcast on. In my plan I even talked about what equipment I was going to use , what type of microphone I was going to use , what editing techniques and tools I was going to use , how I was going to edit my audio and podcast and where I was going to do it so what location I chose. When planning I had more of an idea in my head on how i would want my podcast to be like, this increased my focus and drive to do more. Also when planning , I learnt how to be more creative and innovated.

When planning I learnt a lot of skills which were , Learning how to mix and edit an audio file , writing a script , writing an introduction and an outro , Learning how to use the multi cam , Learning how to sync my audio from the video to the Podcast visuals , I learnt how to to change the colour of the video on priemer pro by using an effect , I also learnt how to use the software where I was recoding our vocals on , I learnt how to use the mixer that the college gave me , I learnt ow to set up the mics in the correct manor for the software to catch the vocals and audio properly , I learnt how to set up the camera using the correct angles to get a close up shot of the guests and a wide shot to get the whole podcast in the visuals, I learnt how to cut up the audio and visual by using the cut up tool on priemer pro to take out the bits I dont need in my podcast.learning how to to use the Eq to make our voices clear and more crispy. I learnt how to deliver the podcast in a informal way where it suits my audience.

When setting up the podcast I had faced some issues which was with the mics and the software. We were going to use this different software first but it wasn’t catching the audio of the mics , we had connected the 4 mics we had home to the laptop but the volume wasn’t coming through the software. We kept trying to connect the input of the mics but it still wasn’t working. So we decided to use another software which my teacher suggested which was much better. But we needed new mics and a mixer for things to work properly. So I had borrowed some mics and a mixer from college. We wanted everything to be perfect so on the final day of the podcast , I told Lewis to come to my house and help us set the volume , gains , input and output of the mics.Lewis helped set the mics , the volume and the gains of the mixer and got the software up and running. Lewis had even helped with the angles of both cameras. We had set up one of the camera at one side of the room to get the close up shot of the guests and the other camera to get everyone in on the round table. We had even got a big light stand to add more lighting to the podcast. We had set up some Prime bottles on the table having it there as a sponsor for the podcast this idea was inspired from the impulsive podcast. The whole set up took about 3 days to complete. We had to get a round table a week before. This was all done in my house. I was going to do this podcast in College but the guests weren’t free on a weekday because of work etc: , so we did at home on the weekend.

When editing my podcast there were some things that worked out and some things that didn’t.

When editing my podcast I had used the different control panel’s and editing tools to make the audio more clear and not so heavy so when you listen to it , it will sound professionally done. There was a point where I was messing around with the control panel decreasing and increasing the nobs to see exactly where the audio will sound not as heavy this took some trial and error but I got there at the end. I even faded the music at the start into my podcast . I used the mixing tool automation to fade my intro into where I start my podcast.

When editing I had to sync our voices to the visuals which took a very long time to do it was trial and error. I had synced it from a pen that bashes the table during the podcast.I added my own music at the start of the podcast as the intro , I had faded it into the podcast. That was the same as the outro.I had even added my logo into the podcast at the start and at the end of the podcast. I had faded it at the start and at the end of the podcast. But at the end of the podcast I had added an effect where I could make my logo spin and smaller.

When editing my podcast I learnt how to use the control panels for my audio , I learnt how to mix my audio so using the automation to fade , I learnt how to cut and replace on garage band. Using all these tools increased the clarity of my podcast. I also learnt how to use the multi cam tool to switch from camera 1 to 2 , using both camera angles to get different shots of the podcast.I even learnt how to change the colour of the visuals by using this saturation tool on adobe priemer pro. This made the podcast stand out more with light.

Next time if i was to edit , I would add more transitions to my podcast.I would also add my logo through out the whole podcast on the top right, id even add subtitles at the bottom. I will even add a promotional banner on the top through out the whole podcast. I would add some more music in the middle of the podcast.

Overall I think this podcast was very well done and was something new and interesting.I have learnt new skills over this time period whilst doing my project. During this project I have even developed new skills and have become more confident with the editing side of things and even the speaking side of things. I have become more confident with planning a podcast and making a script. After doing this podcast I now know more about Bradford , the city of culture and how to deliever a podcast in the most effective way. This podcast has given me more drive and motivation to do more of these podcast and maybe do it as a hobby of mine in the future. Its given me a clear insight on what area I am really good at and what my strong hold is which is doing a podcast.

If I was to do this project again I would get the mics the college had given me and a mixer to make things easier. I would also add my voice in the beginning of the podcast , like an intro of me saying Yo youth in a loud voice with music in the back. I will also spend more time on my planning and lastly use more effects on my audio.

This project taught me that I am capable of a lot of things and I am able to get things done if I put my mind to it. This project has taught me where my strong point is and what im really good at. This project has taught me how to deliver a podcast and how to make it entertaining and professional at the same time.

Down below is my final piece. I am proud of what I have done and my friends, family are also proud of me.The teachers have really helped me through this whole project and they are also very proud of me.I am feeling very happy that I completed this within the time I had been given. I really want to do more podcasts in the future and actually go onto doing podcasts in the long run.

I confirm that the attached assessment is all my own work and does not include any work completed by anyone other than myself and sources have been appropriately referenced.
