My tutor introduced me to different chords we can implement into our compositions, the first note he mentioned was a semibreve which is a full note, which counts for a total of four beats when played on a piano. The second note they introduced to me was a Minim which is known as a half note, a Minim is a note having the time value of two crotchets or half a semibreve meaning it played for two beats when played on a piano, each note was demonstrated by my tutor on a piano so it was easier to understand. The next note that is explained is a crotchet, which is considered a quarter note which lands on every beat, and has one beat count, a big contrast to a semibreve. And the final note is a quaver, which is a half note of a crotchet, accompanied with tail, this note when joined with another quaver creates two fast beats which I currently find hard to keep in time with, but with enough practice when I start composing my own composition, this will change.

I researched these chords after the lesson because taking that much information at once is hard to digest, and knowing myself and how I learn, I often need to review things over and over to fully grasp the concept on what I’m trying to learn. One of the main resources that helps me to understand things I may not fully grasp is YouTube, typically simply laid out videos that explain the information in a broken down easy way, is very effective and memorable for me if I keep this knowledge in mind and review it every so often. I utilize YouTube as much as I can and these are the videos that helped me to understand these notes a lot easier so I could write about them in a lot more context.

Another note he mentioned further on in the lesson was a semitone which was a half step on a keyboard, a semitone is a sort of interval between two white keys that plays a higher chord than the white keys.

>> An Enharmonic equivalent is notes that sound the same as another but is named or spelled differently.

>> ♯ = Sharp {higher note/happier note}

>> ♭ = Flat {Lower note/sadder note}

A chromatic scale or twelve tone scale accompanying twelve pitches, each a semitone above or below its adjacent pitches. In 12-tone equal temperament, the chromatic scale covers all 12 of the available pitches. There is only one scale.

Our tutor introduced to us a method called the circle of fifths, which you can use to create beats for your bars to create a composition. To memorize the cycle of fifths I have thought of my own rhymes my brain can remember, those being, ‘Carol gets drunk and eats butterflies’ and ‘Carol finds B.E.A.D.S’ of course the S isn’t included but it makes it easier to remember. The left side of the Circle of fifths represents the ♭ notes, and the right side represents the ♯ notes. The circle of fifths is a diagram used in music that helps to memorize and comprehend the 24 major and minor keys used in music.

That’s what I’ve managed to obtain with the few lessons that I’ve had, its been quite hard to understand, but I’m doing okay for someone that can’t read sheet music. I think this project is definitely going to be a challenge but ill be able to pass through it if I keep on top my work and look up anything I may not understand so I think I’ll be okay. I’m hoping to have a lot of fun on this project, also I am planning to utilise the criticism I was given in my last project and I hope to improve.

Welcome to my second project I’m now studying at Bradford college, And for this project I’m learning how to compose my own music by arranging chords to create bars that help to create a composition which I will then add to moving atmospheric images and study the difference music adds to TV/Media and why it … Continue reading “Introduction Project 2”

["post-137","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
