(P5) Week 6 Progress

Coming into week six I was fairly prepared. I had a pre-recorded cover from week five to post, to have content to upload this week, this would help me have a lot more time to upload more written work to complete and my digital space. These next two weeks I’m going to be focusing on completing written work, uploading my last cover, and finishing recordings and starting on my Evaluations. This week, I uploaded a cover called Arcade by Duncan Laurence, I love this cover because it was very easy to learn, and it was easy to perform too.

In this cover I wanted to put an original twist, so I created a high note at the ending, to break the monotony I would have created by sounding like the original singer, also giving the last chorus a personality, and being able to distinguish the three choruses. I really like the aesthetic vibe the song holds, and the melody is very easy to learn and perform. This week, I focused mostly on completing written work, where I wrote about how copyright can effect how an artist can upload music, and how media is controlled and distributed on the sites I was uploading my covers too, Mainly YouTube.

This week I created some more Artwork promoting my covers:

The Cover’s audio quality was described to be of a high standard, and I got positive feedback from my peers and Tutor. With this, I also managed to edit a video an upload it, with presenting it in a new way. I used Kinemaster Diamond in order to edit the video, and I added in clips from videos that was shot from outside of the street, I thought it would be pretty cool and would match the songs message. I think overall the editing looked clean and very smooth. I think my performance was overall very good and I’m very proud of this cover. I don’t think it’s to a completely professional standard. The audio could’ve been a lot cleaner, with the set up I had, I don’t think I could’ve gotten it any better, I could’ve done a lot better by recording the songs and being on camera but I was too nervous to show my face, it’s a big fear I haven’t yet overcome. The singing itself I think is very good, It shows off a vocal range I didn’t believe that I had, and I perform this song with a lot of confidence, I felt no need to hold back in this performance, and it’ something I often do in my songs, I aim to build on my new range that I’ve been able to discover, and this project has really helped me expand my setlist for performance and find what songs suit me best. The song choice was very good, in my opinion because allows me to be myself, and to the responses I can tell that the audience thinks this song is very catchy, and that the way I sing this song is memorable, and the song is catchy, so it helps for people to better remember my performances. I think I did very well with picking out the audio, at this time, I had properly discovered an aesthetic that I wanted to work on.

I later decided to pick this song for my final performance instead of Creep by Radiohead and Bellyache by Billie Eilish, because I realised not only would it be better to show off my talents, and offered my voice more freedom, it was also songs that were performed in the first project, and I decided it was best for my to create something new, instead of sticking with things people had done in my place because I was present.

This video was distributed on Instagram and across YouTube, I eventually dropped out of TikTok realising the algorithm wasn’t working in my favour, I will leave a link about how the TikTok algorithm here, so You can understand why I stopped posting content:

In a short summary, with thousands of video being uploaded consecutively each week, it was hard for my videos that would take me a week to create to match artists that were uploading 4-5 times a week, meaning my content was buried under a lot of creator, and there’s a lot I couldn’t keep up with as a creator. although, I did get pretty far with TikTok, within nine weeks my account had reached 170+ followers with uploading my college content, so it wasn’t completely bad.

Overall, I think I did really well this week and I am very proud of my progress, research and skills I have learned.
