(P5) Week 5 Progress

Week 5 was a very relaxed week for me, we had scheduled photoshoots on Tuesday, which were very fun since we had a lot of creative freedom. We could use different filters that were applied to the lights that would reflect on the greenscreen. I loved the colors that I chose. I thought they were very cool and I had a lot of fun posing on chairs, stools, and holding different items. The photos that were taken will be shown here:

Anyways, onto my practical work for this week. I decided to upload two covers since this would be my last week of uploading. The next two weeks will be focused on recording and practicing my three main songs for the showcase. The two covers I did this week are Use Somebody – Kings of Leon and Arcade by Duncan Laurence. Both of these songs I love, because Use Somebody is something I can perform o naturally, and it always leaves me with a smile on my face and Arcade is something that really shows off my vocal range and my potential as a singer, and its really emotional and touching, and the chord progression is insane and sounds really good.

Use Somebody Cover

I will start off with Use Somebody, the first cover in which I had so much fun doing. I felt performing the songs came so natural to me, not at one point did I have to reach into my Vocals to hit a certain note, and its a song that I can easily put on my setlist, since I had performed this previously in Project 1, but I hadn’t gotten the chance to perform it due to my brother unfortunately catching Coronavirus.

Comparing this to my past performance I can see a lot of improvements in the way I perform the song, for example; I have the ability to control my breathing and control my voice better than before, I also sound a lot calmer in my performance, and I was even able to add adaptations to the songs because I felt more comfortable with the song. I feel like this shows how much progress I’ve made from the start of the first project, to the last project.

I used the same same method as before to record of this cover, using my two phones, a stereo speaker, and a microphone, a set up that proves to be working well for my covers, the audio that is produced on my covers sounds a lot better than my first recording back on project 1, proving I’ve gotten a lot better at studying sound, and what makes and breaks a recording. I’ve learned to use the acoustics and sound travel/Vibrating particles that pass through my phone and reflect across the room to my advantage.

Now onto my second cover of this week, My Arcade Cover by Duncan Laurence.

This clips I used were not of HD quality, so I took inspiration from a certain style of format of editing from other YouTube creators, But instead I added my videos and not a still image, to make it stand out among other creators content.

Examples of other creators Editing Style/Content I took inspiration from:

I like this editing style because it’s very good and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, And it’s very good for YouTube thumbnails. Adding in the video with the text gives variety to my videos, so they are all easy to distinguish.

I am very proud of this cover, I initially didn’t think I’d be able to perform it very well, but it turns out it compliments my voice very well, and I can hit this insane high note and the end that really shows off my protentional as a singer, one of the criticisms I have is that I can hear background noise when I play the video back, and it’s subtle, and my voice and stereo did a good job at drowning it out, but it still can be heard throughout the audio, but considering this is a live performance, and there’s other students performing in other rooms, noise being picked up by my phone isn’t something that I shouldn’t have expected.
