My targets for week 4 were to catch up on digital space work, come up with a new cover for week 5, and finish editing my current recording for this week. Did I achieve those targets? Yes, I did, and even managed to make a mini cover for TikTok in the process. Week 4 I was still standing strong, I managed to get 2 pages of research done, and I recorded and performed a song called Lovely sung by Olivia Rodrigo. I find that most Olivia Rodrigo songs really seem to suit my voice, and it’s very easy for me to put a personalized touch on the way I perform the song. In this cover, I altered the key in which I sang it in, and the melody slightly, to create an original twist to the song, so when people listened to the performance, they would hear my voice, and not a copy of the original artist’s voice.
This cover was specifically edited so it could go across all social media platforms, including TikTok, So as a design choice, I decided to adapt my video, to accommodate all websites. This week was the revolution of putting time lapses in my videos, in order the create an atmosphere for the audience to focus on while they listened to my performance, I really think the video here really has some complimentary colours, and it matches really well with my performance. This cover was edited on an app called Kinemaster Diamond, then exported and shared across all platforms.
On Monday I rehearsed and practiced my new song, I was planning to go with a song called Heather by Conan Grey, but after performing it on Monday and trying again on Tuesday, I realized that the song didn’t suit my voice because I tried to hard, and not only that, I was reaching for some of the notes in the song, which would make some part of the song quite unpleasant to listen too. So for Friday, I chose a different song, which was Drivers License Olivia Rodrigo.
One of the questions I was asked by my tutor is how do I record and get the audio so clean, and my answer to that is two phones, a microphone, and a stereo speaker. The room I perform in has great acoustics, which helps the sound travel, and blocks out the noise from other college students performing in other rooms, not only that, the microphone helps to make my voice a lot clearer. And the stereo speaker helps to improve the sound quality and how it is received. The quality of your device and what you record on also makes a difference, some devices have better cameras and recording sensors, and are able to intake music and audio a lot better than other devices, because they were made with better materials.
Once again this video was fairly short, but I saw some improvement with including videos into my Artwork, The reason why the video was cut short is because I didn’t like parts where I sounded bad in the song, and it worked in my favour to cut it that short because I had discovered the world of YouTube reels, in which it was constructed like TikTok, so having it at a minute was pushing it into the instagram’s algorithm. I was able to get quite a few responses from that cover, and my audience really liked the steps I was taking with including videos into my work, it gives my audience something to view instead of a still image, and I focused my Dad’s photography on creating profile pictures, banners and thumbnails for my socials, instead of videos. I feel like video could’ve been better quality, but for starting out, I think I did a good job putting it all together in Kinemaster Diamond.
My Targets for next week were to come up with 3 finalised songs, and create new cover art work, and creating one last cover, and doing more research.
