Overall Project 2 Assessment

I think it safe to say I was ‘satisfactory’ for this project, I didn’t understand Music theory, and I still don’t fully grasp the concept. I think it took me at least 3-4 weeks to fully start to grasp the circle of fifths and how to use Sibelius. And I had never composed music before, plus, I didn’t understand anything about sheet music, chords, or notes. And I was lacking in the knowledge of instruments. Since singing was the main thing I did in terms of music.

When doing write-ups and tasks I tried to link and explore my research a lot more- since that was one of the criticisms I got when I was studying live practice. I also felt like I produce a lot more work this time – because even though my context was Good, and that was good enough for me, I still wanted to do more.

There was points in this project when I wanted to give up, there was a lot of pressure on understanding the music theory side of music as one of the main sources of music, and now looking at it, It wasn’t the only way, And I have an explanation for this.

In both of my cases, Making my Sibelius and my Logic X compositions, Something miraculous that through me of course but ultimately made it better is what was a strength I used. There was a lot of pressure to learn the Music theory and don’t get me wrong, they are important, but I want to share how I managed to create my concepts.

Sibelius:

This was COMPLETELY by accident, a wonderful accident. Someone altered my work, in a way in which it couldn’t be played, but yet, it sounded really good, and it could be utilized if done correctly. Now, before this happened I was in the same position my Logic X composition left me in at first; completely lost. I was trying to follow it from theory, and it was just not working. It just didn’t click no matter how many times it was explained to me. So when a ‘Sorta-opportunity’ appeared on my lap, I wasn’t gonna pass it up. And I ended up making something that originally sounded like and I quote ‘As someone had leaned on a keyboard’ To something that everyone who listened to it really liked, I showed it to my mum how helped me decide on the name Nature’s melody’ which I really liked, plus it’s my mum so of course I’d agree.

Logic X:

Yep, I didn’t use music theory for this one either. Both were ideas that were flung together last minute. As for my Logic X work, The night before I scrapped my three-second mumble beat nonsense I was working on I downloaded just by chance a piano app, and I wanted to have a mss around because I was bored and happened to remember a pretty easy melody that didn’t require complicated notes, which was helped because by this time I had broken my wrist to it helped that the notes weren’t complicated. So it hadn’t for me being bored that night, my Logic X composition would’ve been a three-second, barely developed, a piece that obviously showed I didn’t know what I was doing.

Overall, I think I’ve managed to scrape by this project, I don’t think music Producing is my thing though, not yet at least, cause it took a lot of time to grasp any of the technical sides of music, it had a lot of pressure, and the programs were very frustrating at first. Overall, I would probably rate myself a satisfactory, I think I did okay for this project.
