My Live Performance Analysis –
Introduction:
I initially picked this concert because it’s a lovely display of people coming together after a tragic event – Ariana Grande the artist displays not only her vulnerability, but she also shows her strengths, along with several other noticeable influencers who took apart in the event in performances and supporting Ariana Grande. The reason why this event is so well known, is because when the well-known “Manchester Bombing” stuck in previous Manchester Concert, it left many who had attended the concert injured, or sadly dead. This event was to pay respect and also find closure about the vent and those that had been lost. The reason why this event is so powerful is because it was about the audience, and about the growth of Ariana Grande herself, and the energy in the stadium was positive and uplifting and made iconic and memorable for all those that came to perform and those in the audience.
Venue and type of audience:
It took place in Manchester, the venue was held in a large stage, a live performance with pleasing lights and a massive projector, the audience positioned around the stage, holding signs of positivity, the stage was illuminated with lights, and was a very interactive and positive place to be. With amps, instruments, and people that performed, singers would perform on stage and interact with crowd. The audience interacted with enthusiasm, and positive energy, holding signs, and cheering and singing long to the music, Coming down to preference, I would love to have been there. Noticeable characters such as Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Little Mix, were shown on stage, performing and comforting Ariana, where at some points would break down and crying on stage, but this is what brought the audience together, as Miley in particular stepped up as great emotional support along with an encouraging and understanding crowd.
Communication:
Communication was a huge part of the event, with several recognisable singers on stage, and the symbolism her song “One last time” had with the audience, communication was key in this event, on several occasions, Ariana and many influencers addressed the audience giving condolences, and thanking them for attending, and encouraging positivity within the crowd, walking the edge of stages, interacting with crowds, along with having the audience sing along with the songs that were played, created a great atmosphere and communication was found to be a fundamental part of this event. With banners and signs being held up from the audience this also created a sense of communication to Ariana Grande and other singers performing, a sense of understanding and reassurance as the whole event was uplifting for everyone involved. The song “One last time” is considered communication because it was the song played when the unfortunate bombing erupted in Ariana’s last tour, the song has a double meaning, for those that had sadly passed away, and becoming the strength of the crowd and those who sang along when it was performed.
Stage Presentation:
The stage was illuminated in pink and blue lights, that created a lovely pastel aesthetic, the lights illuminated the audience, and on the stage were several influences lined up on stage who each had turns singing songs collaborating with each other, the projector showed the artists up closely, showing emotional moments, and memorable fun moments when interacting with the crowd. The stage was very large, but small in comparison to the audience, even so, the power of the performance as artists sung memorable famous songs, and interacted with crowd, and dancing on the stage, made both interactions between singer and audience just as powerful and they overall complimented the event. Unlike other events, many artists collaborated on one event, sung on other artists songs, which is something you don’t often come cross when it comes to concerts or in general, this made the event feel all the more special and memorable for those involved. The other influencers gave the event a sphere of influence of people with different tastes in music coming together, and discovering new artists, and interacting with a variety of people and singers.
Music competency
With several songs being performed by different artists, the variety in genres allowed the audience to experience new music, also, the stage had drum kits, stereos, amps, microphones, keyboards, and devices that played backing tracks for the singers. With groups like Little Mix, when they harmonised on their performance singing wings, I had shivers going down my spine, they were so confident and their control, timing, and vocals were on point and amazing, putting an original twist onto a song which was already well known for being a chart-topping hit. Ariana’s performance, performing “One last time” it showed her in a light in which the audience got to see her vulnerabilities, and connect to her as a person, not just as an artist they liked. Along with the emotion, she hit notes within the song beautifully, incorporating riffs, and beautifully executed harmonies that like Little Mix, added a fresh new twist to her song. With each song connecting to expressing positivity and helping to raise money and awareness for the tragic event, it really spoke to the audience that this wasn’t just a regular event, it was a moment in time, which people look back on with happiness, and move past the event that struck everyone involved.
Overall thoughts/Outro:
I think this performance was successful because of the powerful meaning behind the show, and how they chose to convey the message. The symbolism of songs, the artists that attended, and the massive stadium holding 55,000 people, all coming together to raise money for charity for ones that have been lost in the Manchester bombing that previous year. The message is what made it successful, down to the song choice, the uplifting performances, the artists coming together each having different influences performing their own music to bring people together, this is one of the best performances that I know. Thank you for reading.
