Problem Solving

13/2/22

Isaac and I were just jamming on the guitar and piano and we came up with a really good composition idea. I felt like it needed a little guitar break or solo kind of sound to it but I’m struggling to find the sounds I can hear in my head because I don’t really understand how to solo guitar yet. It’s not sounding as full of I’d like it to.

I have been play around with the chords we already have and I have a very stripped down idea of the solo that I’d like, it still needs more work but I have the basis down.

15/2/22

I started out with three ideas and I’m happy with how my other two are going but my first idea has brought me to a stale mate and I can’t seem to get anymore inspiration for it. I’m thinking of creating something with more of a Latin feel to accompany the percussion. I’ve decided to scrap my original idea and research into the Montuno style.

17/2/22

I’m scrapping my second composition. I’ve been struggling to get any inspiration on how to take it any further and I just feel like mine and Isaac’s composition is more of a solid and rounded out idea than my original idea so I’m swapping my second composition out for mine and Isaac’s collaboration. I’m still keeping my Montuno idea but I need to work on a third idea now.

21/2/22

I’ve been working on my production plan and I’m struggling to find a slot where me and Isaac can record because he’s very busy with his own project. I have made my schedule quite flexible on what composition I’m actually working on when so I can probably swap some things around if he can’t do one week, but I have been informing him as I’ve wrote it so then he can let me know if I need to move it around.

1/3/22

I have been working on my production plan and I have realised that I won’t have enough time to edit the documentary style video together so I’ve decided to scrap it and give more time to scoring for my accompaniment instruments, strings and percussion.

8/3/22

Yesterday, I researched strings and wanted to start using my research in practice straight away but I hadn’t recorded my piano parts so I had no reference. Today, I did a rough draft of Estrella and my Latin influenced piece so I could just work on the strings next time.

13/3/22

I was thinking about my canvas’ and I decided to change it from a real life moving video and instead I want to create an animation.

14/3/22

I have simplified my piece and created a more memorable motifs to add and repeat instead but I couldn’t get the timing right so I slowed it down and practiced it slow and then sped it up.

28/3/22

It’s week 4 and I haven’t even got the bases down for my Latin piece, which is quite worrying. Today I’m going to catch up on my written work as we’re not in college and then tomorrow I’m going to go in and get the bases down for the percussion.

2/4/22

I opened up my solo piano piece to start composing the string arrangement but it didn’t open the track up, just the event list, so I couldn’t work on the track. It took me a couple days to figure out how to open the track back up so that was 2 days of composing I lost. However, I’ve figured out how to open the track back up so I can compose again now.

7/4/22

The Latin piece has proven to be the most difficult one to compose for but I think it’s because I’m trying to work around the Montuno so I’ve decided to swap the piano out for now and play around with some steel drum sounds instead, see if I can get any further with the piece.

20/4/22

The more I work on the Reggaeton style, the more I feel like it doesn’t fit the vibe of the EP that I’m going for. I was recently listening to Eddie Benjamin and when I checked his EP trackless, I saw Back to Black – Amy Winehouse. I think a cover song would fit perfectly because I don’t feel like I have enough time to just compose a whole new piece. This means I need to research legal ways to upload a cover onto Spotify and then listen to tracks and see which I feel has the perfect fit, learn it and then record it.

15/4/22

The violins on track 1 were out of time so I need to go back and rerecord them in time for them to be mixed and mastered or scrap them. I’ve decided to rerecord them and then give Lewis my tracks on Wednesday to mix and master by Monday.

27/5/22

Last week, I checked the distrokid page to upload my pieces so they were to be released today but it said that they upload straight away. I left them until today, so they’d go up on the right day, but now it says that it’ll take 5-7 days to upload them so I have to push back the release date.
