I started off by listening to a few Pop songs already, to gain some influence. I listened to songs like “I love me – Demi Lovato” and “Therefore I am – Billie Eilish”. Both of these songs had a beat behind all the other bits like piano so I came up with a catchy beat to hit on Beats 1 and 3. I then looped it so it would go round fo the whole song, but I’ll probably change up the beat for the chorus and bridge. The song is in the time signature of 4/4 with a 120 bpm.

Then, I added in some piano chords, because a lot of Pop songs have piano playing as their main melody and I quite liked that idea too. However, when I added in the piano, it made the beat and the piano sound out of time so I needed to quantise them to 1/8ths and then change the lengths so that everything sounded in time and stopped sounding messy. The chords I chose were all in the key of C major and I chose 4, 6, 3 and 5, which isn’t a typical pattern but it is in a typical key for pop music.

I chose to steer slightly away from “bubble-gum Pop” and added in a synth to give it a more ethereal feel. I simply just followed the piano chords but with single notes, F, A, E, G. However, I may move it to start on the 2nd run around the chords so it gives it more of a build up feel.

I chose to move the synth round to the second loop in chords because it gave more of a build up feeling instead of everything being given to you to hear at once.

For my second attempt, I went for more of a latin feel with the guitar but kind of just added the bass in to make them more emphasised. This one isn’t my favourite because it doesn’t sound exactly like they’re in time or that they go together as well as they should but it gives more of a rough feel to the music and like yo can really hear what instruments are in the track.

Track 3 was much more of a subtle sound and it sounded quite basic but quite nice.
