Aims:
My project aim is to compose three piano compositions with strings and percussion accompaniments. These tracks are for my EP which will be released on Spotify. I will be performing one composition, from the EP, at the showcase as promotion. Alongside this, I’ll be performing six to eleven songs with Millie, at Deershed and the showcase.
Objectives:
I need to research how to score for strings as well learning as how to play common percussive beats. I’ll be researching using articles and YouTube videos but also by listening to older composers and more modern composers that use the similar sounds I’m aiming for. I’ll need to research how to upload onto Spotify. For the performances, I want to research how to create an immersive live projection for my composition. I’ll also be looking at other performers live projections to get inspiration. I’ll look at some of my favourite performers to get tips on how I can use the whole stage at Deershed.
I will need to write up evaluations from all of my rehearsal times with Millie, documenting videos alongside them. I will need to also learn the songs off by heart and be comfortable playing them. I will be researching different performance techniques and ways into engaging with the audience. After learning all of the songs, we need to work on the setlist and how I can create medleys/ what the most effective segways are.
I will be listening to different composers styles in composing and looking at how they can inspire my writing. I’ll be looking into different ways of recording, like live recording or using software. Hopefully it can all be live but it depends on if I can get a string quartet. If I’m recording live, I’ll need to research the best ways in recording strings live, i.e. the type of mics and where to aim them.
I’ll need to use social media and possibly posters in order to promote my EP. I’d like to start promoting my EP when there’s only like 2 weeks left until the performance and the drop of the EP. I’ll be using social media like Instagram, Twitter and TikTok. I’m aiming for my target audience to stream my EP on Spotify so I will create a link tree and link them directly to my Spotify.
