Monday –
My starting point today, was my motifs and a little bit of an idea as to where I wanted to take it. By the end, I composed my first draft, it was approximately 3 and a half minutes long. Hopefully, I can record it into Logic so I can fix the timing because right now, it’s a little messy and dips in and out of time. I want to record it into Logic instead of on an actual piano because I can quantise it and also, I can re-record any mistakes instead of having to retake the whole thing.
Tuesday –
Today, I started to attempt recording into Logic but it didn’t really work out because I didn’t have a sustain pedal so I felt like it lacked expression. Now, I think I’m going to record onto an actual piano to be honest, because I find it easier to be expressive on, and it’s easier to convey heavier emotions. However, this means that I need to know the piece off by heart really, so I’m not constantly trying to focus on what to play next and I can focus more on how I want to express the emotions.
Friday –
I spent the first half of the lesson practicing the piano piece so I was more comfortable with the piece, and so I can focus more on portraying the emotions of the piece. Then, I set up all of the mic’s and recording equipment for recording the piano live on Monday.
I got a lot of insight on live recordings, like I learnt about the microphones and how they all need to be level to get good sound pick up and no feedback, I learnt I need to wrap the wires around the stand a bit so it stops the wires from being a health and safety risk, and I learnt that the audio interface controls the microphones levels etc.
