Overall, this process was actually a lot of fun because there were a lot of different sounds to play around with and it was very easy to fix mistakes, like you could just go back into the editing bit and move some notes down or turn some down instead of needing to retake the whole thing. I’m really proud of the outcome and I think if I did it again, I’d only change a few things.
To begin with, the build up was very strong yet subtle. I slowly added in more instruments to increase the harmonies and melodies yet they’re not all dominant, so depending on how hard you listen is how much you’ll get out of the song. The track starts off with the 4 chords before I added in the build up, so the start is very soft and calming before it begins to get slightly more intense as I add in different sounds. I used a variety of different scales in order to amplify the melodies too, which gave the song slight variation and gave more of the song instead of it looping around.
Although I added variation, it did repeat the soothing beat for quite a long time so maybe the build up is a little too long. I also revert back to the starting build up beat quite frequently during the song so maybe it would have been useful to add more noticeable variations in certain places, like maybe bring in keys in a few different places and play more that just scales.
The track does have a very strong structure though and has a lot of subtle variations instead of a lot of noticeable changes, such as the way the piano plays slightly after the beat in verse 2. There were a wide range of different harmonies, like the uses of chords and scales alongside staccato etc. However, the track still feels like there’s something slightly missing from it, possibly lyrics, but it may just be that it sounds a little repetitive too.
There’s a good, solid structure and time of this track but if I could do it again, I’d probably change the ending because it does sound a little abrupt, I might have added in a fade instead.
In conclusion, I do feel like I have left the track open to a lot of interpretation, which can be good for purposes such as if another artists wanted to write lyrics to it etc but I would have maybe not made it so repetitive if I did it again. Or, I maybe just add more noticeable variations so that it doesn’t sound like it just loops a lot.
