Using Sibelius was a very different experience because I have never wrote music using sheet before because I can’t really read sheet. I did enjoy this project though because I feel like it definitely helped me to understand sheet a lot better because I spent so long fixing the notes. I did struggle with what the strings could actually play because I’ve never played violin etc so I didn’t know that they couldn’t play3 notes at once so I did have go back and change some notes and put them in like the viola or cello etc.
To start with, it does start slightly a way through what I wrote in my sheet because otherwise the piano wouldn’t come in just after the opening credits. However, it didn’t affect it really and I think it fit really well. The piano starts exactly as you see the glare come on to the tree so it’s like the piano starts perfectly. If I could, I would change the intro though because I don’t really like how it fits and I think it sounds too cut up, like there sounds like there’s a lot of rests so I probably should have added more slurs in.
I think my section B really takes the view into a whole new direction and it really exposes a story that only your mind could tell by following the score to the time-lapse. It feels like the video gets more intense in section B because there’s so much more going on like layering and more complex melodies and harmonies.
I think the end wraps it up really nicely because it’s so soft after really intense bit, it’s kind of like giving you time to reflect on what you’ve just felt/experienced. However, I do feel like I probably should have brung it down a little more because it kind of sounds a little abrupt a the end. If I could do it again, I probably would have made each string instrument run scales before a solo piano bit because they just sound a little out of place.
Overall, I did enjoy the project but I probably wouldn’t use Sibelius again really because I feel like it’s quite hard to use unless you can read sheet because otherwise I’m just figuring out if it fits because I’m listening by ear. Also, they don’t 100% really sound like the real instruments so it’s kind of hard to figure out if it sounds good or if it’s just how the computer plays it.
