90’s Critical Listening

I’d say this song fits very comfortably into the genre of alternative indie rock because of it’s whole structure, lyrics and sound. It has a very solid and long structure of verse, pre, chorus, pre, verse, pre, chorus, pre, guitar solo, verse, pre, chorus and then outro. Each verse is 8 bars, each pre is 8 bars but then each chorus is 12 bars. There are drums, electric guitar, bass and vocals in this song. It’s in the key of F minor and has 116 bpm.

This song is definitely rock, especially with it’s heavy drums and bass that seem to just be accompanied by the vocals instead of lead by them. This has a very solid structure of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, guitar solo, verse, chorus, verse, chorus and then an outro. However, the guitar solo is actually reversed which gives it a very unique sound. Honestly, this song just sounds very demonic but it was bold in using different techniques, such as the reversed guitar solo.

This also uses a very unique instrument called a Jaw-harp which gives off a very unique sound and not a lot of people play it so it was very interesting when included in this song.
