Week 1 –
I started by writing out my circle of fifths, picking my Key and then writing the scale out. I choose to compose in the key E major so my scale that I was working with was E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D, E. I chose the pattern of I, IV, vi, V. I made the chords change every bar by making each note whole notes. Each instrument faded in, one by one, and then faded out, one by one.
Week 2 –
I changed my Key and whole composition because I felt like I could capture the time-lapses emotion much better if I attempted a much more complex composition. I chose the Key of C so my scale to work with was C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C. I chose this because I felt like I had much more flexibility in my composition if I used this key because I didn’t have to worry about #’s or b’s. I also incorporated the C major pentatonic scale in for the other instruments so it gave a wide variation in sounds and patterns, and just over all gave it more of an emotional feel. I used the chord sequence IV, V, vi. However, I included some notes instead of just block chords so it added more emotion.
