My initial project idea is to create a three track EP of piano compositions that will be accompanied by orchestral strings and Latin Percussion. The EP will be available on Spotify on May 27th. On Spotify, they’ll each have a canvas, a 7 second long moving image. To promote my EP, I’ll be posting snippets on my social media, such as: Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. As well as social media, I’ll be using the final showcase to perform one of my compositions so they get an idea as to what sound is on the EP, and if they like it then they’ll listen to the rest of the EP. During the showcase performance, I’ll be using MadMapper, a light projection app that imitates moving images, like the ocean, to create a more immersive performance. I want my Madmapper design to centre around the ocean and nature so I’ll be finding videos to download and then editing them together in an appropriate sequence for my composition.
In order to be successful, I’ll be researching things like promotion, orchestral string arrangements and Latin percussive beats, so I can get a clearer idea of the sound I’m wanting to imitate and how to reach the people who will actually enjoy that sound and therefore listen to my EP. My research will include listening to different artists, who have a similar sound I’m going for, and really looking into how people end up finding new artists to see how I can push myself through to different audiences. I’ll be researching how to play into the algorithms too so that I get through to more people.
I’m challenging myself a lot within this project because I’ve never worked with Latin Percussion before and I have little knowledge of graphic designs. However, I think it’s good that I’m pushing myself a lot because, for the future, I’ll be needing to use graphics to promote any further work I do. Latin Percussion will also challenge my understanding of different timings because everything has to be so tightly in time in Latin styles.
