Relevance to the Industry

My project involves the roles of several different jobs within the industry as well as different genres and styles.

My project involves a lot of graphic design work. I’ll be using the “Adobe” apps, more specifically “Photoshop” and “After Effects”. These will be used to create my promotional posts and my Canvas’ for Spotify. I’l also be using Madmapper, a light projection app to make my performance more immersive. I think the “Adobe” work is especially important because visuals really help the audience engage with your stuff. In today’s industry, you’re expected to do visuals for almost every piece of work so I think the “Adobe” work really helps me start to understand that apps that every artist needs in the industry today. Madmapper is also very important because people want more of a show now and the light projections is an easy way to deliver that. The whole graphics side is helping to develop my artistry, which has to be more than just the musical side within today’s industry. Visuals keep people hooked.

Promotion is very important if you want to attract an audience. Social media makes this an easier and more difficult way to promote, it allows everything to be in one place, allows more interaction and it has an algorithm you can play into with hashtags so your content reaches the right people. However, social media is very demanding and competitive so you have to keep promoting in create ways that really grab an audiences attention. I’ll be using videos with hashtags on TikTok and Instagram as I already have a decent amount of followers that can engage with my videos.

I’ve, of course, included the role of a composer as I’ll be composing three tracks myself. This project plays to both my strengths and challenges within this role because I have previously composed a lot for piano, so I already have that as a strength, but I haven’t worked with percussion before. This role allows me to explore different genres and the more genres and instruments you can play/do allows you to become a more rounded musician and therefore build a better following. In the past, I’ve stuck more to a pop/classical piano genre so this time I wanted to branch out into a Latin style to see if I could develop any strengths in that genre.

Overall, this project pushes my abilities and creativity a lot but it will also deepened my understand in using different instruments and allowed me to experience different musical instruments, like the steel drums and other percussive instruments. Working in different genres will also give me more confidence when performing as I can play more challenging and differetn stuff. Learning different genres and becoming more rounded out, as a musician, will also allow me to find my sound and possibly mix different genres together to create my own sound and that’s important because people are more attracted to authenticity and uniqueness.
