This was my initial piece before I developed it. I have a good structure down, it has a pop song kind of style to it with it always returning to a section that can be referred to as the chorus. The timing on the chorus section sways a lot and it’s quite noticeable so that needs to be flushed out, which will happen as I get more confident in the piece. The bridge kind of section sounded too distant from the piece here but I later developed it. The structure is very strong and I have a really good basis to work from but the timing and some sections needs working on to make it memorable without sounding too repetitive.
This is the day when I wrote the motif that I based the rest of the composition around. As you can hear, the timing is messy but I have the basic idea down so that I can later build off it. It is a little bit repetitive but because I knew I was going to arrange for a string quartet, I felt like the piano could repeat as the strings took a little bit of a lead.
From section A into B. I knew I wanted more movement so I was kind of just trying to play around in the scale and find some other sounds that would work because A into B felt like it needed something to lead us into the motif. This was basically me improvising until I found the sound I liked and built from it.
Again, this is just me improvising around what I currently had so I could build off A and build into B.
I’m familiarising myself with the movement more but I still hadn’t decided what sound was best to build into section B yet.

This idea is slowly developing and getting stronger but I still hadn’t quite got it yet.
Developing the bridge idea which later turned out to sound too different to the rest of the piece so it was actually scrapped.
Bounce’s:
The piano piece itself would work just fine as a solo piece because the composition is quite strong but I wanted to compose for strings to accompany the piano because you can really feel the emotion of the piece through the strings. I wanted the timing to be in a Roberto style because I like the piece having a bit of a free flow, I feel like you can feel the emotion more when it’s not so uniform. The main motif is very memorable and when you think of the piece, I feel like, you think of the motif.
The cello is kind of a background instrument to add power to the piano. It follows the root chord of what the piano piece is following and remains pretty consistent throughout. The cello was the first stringed accompany I wrote for this track and it really does make the piece feel more powerful. The most dominant accompanying instrument is defiantly the violin. The violin drives the emotion and really cuts through the whole piece. Even though it’s only playing the staccato of what the piano is playing, it makes a huge difference and the track sounds empty without it. In the bridge part, when the violin plays a slightly differentiated version of what the piano is playing, you really follow the violin as it kind of guides you through the emotion of the piece, it’s very powerful, I feel. Again, the strings really made the motif more memorable but also more emotional.
