Anecdote: Life.
Section A – Feels slow because as a baby it feels like everything is good but you’re not quite out into the world yet to be curious. It feels homely and safe but there’s not much to it.
Section B- As we move into section B, there’s more of a build up. It reminds me of adolescence when you’d start to explore things and you’d find the beauty and joy in everything, everything feels new and yet still very familiar, the repetition, as you’re of course too young to wonder too far on your own.
Section C – This section has a little more of a hidden fear kind of feel behind it. It feels hopeful but also a little melancholy. This reflects you growing up and kind standing on your own two feet, it’s so different from what you’ve previously known. The instrumental build up reflects the many different layers of maturing and growing up and actually becoming independent (fear, hope, pride, happiness, loneliness).
Section A – We slow back into section A briefly to reflect the realisation that you have of how far you’ve come. The instrumentation isn’t as stripped back as the first time we hear section A because you have experienced more and so you feel kind of nostalgic and miss it but you’re also happy with how far you’ve come.
Section B – This section is repeated in an higher octave with new instruments because, now that you’re older and you’ve settled into adult hood, it’s not so scary anymore. You feel more joy and more pride and you’ve seen so much and experienced so much that life doesn’t feel so daunting anymore.
Section C – This section is repeated the same as before with very little tweaks because it reflects how you kind of always return back to fear. You start with the fear of not knowing how to move into a new life and end with a fear of losing it. The flute, that’s only just been added in, plays a more nostalgic tune because it’s gratitude for having had the opportunity to live and experience the things you have.
Section A – This section is much slower, hardly any movement. I did this to reflect the elder hood. You have lived and now you’ve returned to the feeling you felt as a baby, homely and safe. It kind of reflects the end of the adventures. The end is meant to reflect peace, that’s why I rang the chords out longer.

My Anecdote: Addiction
This piece doesn’t really have a structure and it more bounces back and fourth through the same ideas with heavier expressions. I personally think it resembles the hold that addictions and toxic traits have over us. This piece feels really heavy and it feels like we’re going around in a circle of darkness, the darkness feels like addiction to me. The build up of the accompaniments kind of feel like we’re getting a little closer and closer to falling into something that’s too deep to escape. The synths to me feel extra melancholy and kind of feel like they’re reflecting the outsiders perspective on this person that keeps spiralling. The ending feels very much unfinished and like you’ve felt the gloominess and the darkness so it’s like a “do you think you made it out or not, like did you fall further in or were you able to fix the addiction. That’s how I feel when I listen anyway.

Anecdote:
Title is a Persian word meaning calm or solace. Arnalds himself is yet to come out and tell us the true meaning behind this beautiful piece.
Final Performance:
Before we even started, Millie got the audience laughing and talking to us so it really made up look confident. I feel like I should’ve engaged with the audience more by looking up but I had confident and consistent strumming.
I love this performance because I was really able to demonstrate my use of dynamics and rhythm. I think this really helped me look and play confidently. We communicated really well on stage, as you can see at the end by us both slowing down and going quieter to fade out. If I was to play again, I’d of remembered the chords the whole way through but I did play it off really well as you can’t even tell. To look even more confident I’d have stayed a little at the end when Millie got them to clap for me and I would’ve looked at the audience a little more. Overall, a very good performance.
When speaking, I sounded and looked really confident, I promoted my ep and spoke clearly. However, when I started I felt the nerves so I sped up the motif section, which caused me to slip and it sounded messy. I did carry on and after they clapped too early and laughed, I felt more confident and then slowed down so I didn’t slip anymore notes. If I was to perform these again, I’d wait a little longer before going into the motif and slowed down the motif. “Saman” went really well, it had a really nice sway, but I do wish I’d slowed it down. Them clapping too early allowed me to make a little joke at the end so they laughed and I think that mistake made the performance more enjoyable for them and possibly more memorable.
