I recently watched Camila perform and I noticed that many of the band stop playing for parts. I re-watched to look at what they were doing whilst they waited to play and they were swaying, smiling and just enjoying the music. They also smiled at each other and just overall was enjoying the performance. They all just kind of had a little sway and dance, sometimes lip syncing the words or beats.
This article is really interesting! To begin with, they talk about how important self dialogue is, for example, if you walk on stage thinking you’re going to mess up, you’ll start playing wrong. This is because you told yourself you were going to mess up so you did. However, if you tell yourself that you’re going to smash it and everyone’s going to enjoy it, you’ll do just fine. Also, watch your thoughts. If you say you won’t be able to play, then you won’t, you have to believe in yourself from the offset, no matter how many voices say otherwise because yours is the most important. The best way they advised was to just act like you’re confident and just pretend, like a fake it until you make it situation. Self talk is also important. If you mess up, it’s ok but go easy and then you’ll get it back. If you’re too harsh on yourself, you’ll just keep messing up.
