Introduction

I’m Tia Trueman and I have been self-teaching myself piano and guitar for approximately a year and a half. I’d say I’m much more dominate on piano than on guitar because piano feels much more like a comfort play than like a requirement that I need to practice. I play a little guitar too, but I don’t tend to practice guitar as much as piano. I have always loved music for as long as I could remember, whether is was used to comfort me, a way to express myself or just because I really wanted to listen to my favourite artists and songs that I am obsessed with, I’ve just always been drawn to listen to music in any/all situations.

By the end of the first year, I would like to be able to release my first single. I usually play around with a lot of different melodies and lyrics but I sometimes struggle to pair the two together so I’d really love to be able to complete a full song that I am content with, and can be proud of. I’d also like to be successful in gaining more confidence, especially when performing, because I want to show more of my work to people, especially if I’ve worked hard on it, so I can gain helpful criticism and feedback.

I took BTEC music when I was In year 10 and gained a level 2 distinction in the course but I’d definitely love to gain more experience. The course offers a lot more ‘hands on’ experience and opportunities so I’ll be look forward to accepting as many opportunities as possible to gain much more experience within music and the industry as a whole. By hands on, I mean that we get to do live performances with live audiences or work in studios so we get a real life experience of what it’s really like to work in those kind of situations.

This course offers a lot of experience in all different aspects of music such as production, performing, record and composing. By the end of the course, I’d love to have gained a lot of knowledge on all of the different components because I feel like they’re all extremely interesting and it’s helpful to at least know the basics. However, I’d especially love more performance and production knowledge as I want to be a performer so I think if I learn the most in these, it will be very beneficial to my career.

When it comes to music, I’m pretty open minded so I’ll listen to what ever really. I love pop because it’s always such a happy vibe that you get and it really just makes you want to get going, especially if you listen to pop music right before you have to go somewhere. My favourite pop artist is Demi Lovato but I also listen to a lot of other people in the industry like Lauren Jauregui (which she kind of does a little more alternative than just pop, similar to Demi really), Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony, One Direction and basically anyone, because the list could go on for a while. Although I do predominantly listen to pop music however, I love genres like EDM, R&B and hip-hop. To be honest, if it’s music, then I’ll listen regardless of the artist or genre really. I do tend to just listen to my favourite artists songs, like Demi and Lauren, but I sometimes listen to radio music, so I can listen to a range of different artists and genres. Lastly, Demi Lovato and Lauren Jauregui do seem to be starting new era’s so you should definitely check them out.

As much as I love to listen to music because it makes me happy and feel more understood within their lyrics, I also love to play my own music and write for myself. I hope on the course that I learn how to become a stronger writer because writing music is a way to be 100% honest but in a creative way, like a creative outlet.
