PRS for music is a royalty collection and distrubution society. Its members are songwriters composers and anyone who makes music. Copyright lasts your whole life and 70 years after. PRS gives permission for people to play the members music, and the customer’s money goes straight to the members. PRS is gigs, clubs, shops radios and everything like that. MCPS is CD’s, downloads and everything like that. Publishing rights, when you make a song you by defauly own the melody and lyrics. Sound recording, whoever pays for the studio they own the master rights, but if you do it all yourself, you own the master rights. PRS do the publishing rights, and PPL do the master rights and the performers on the recording, so not the original artist. However you can do it all yourself you join all the societies and reap all the benefits. PRS operate on a non profit basis, they are globally connected and no matter where your music is played you’ll get money. It isn’t a private firm, it is member run. 18.8 trillion performances in 2018. Over 145,000 members. Music publishers are also members. Music publishers make sure you’re paid what you’re meant to, they financially support songwriters and promote songs. They also license you’re music. PRS and MCPS collect royalties from gigs, clubs, small venues, concerts and festivals, TV and radio play, streaming services, CD, Vinyls and downloads.
