Candidate Number –  10626679
Pathway –  Music Performance and Production
Project Title –  Writing and recording an EP
Section 1:  Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout this year I have learnt many useful skills and learnt a lot about music. I have learnt about live performance, composition and songwriting. For this final project I want to combine all of what I’ve done to create the best final project that I can. I also would like to improve what I’m not too confident in, such as recording and songwriting. As well as using the skills that I am good at, such as drumming and some aspects of production. Some skills that I have learnt throughout this year that will help me with this project are the producing skills that I have gained in project 2 and 3. As in project 3 I did the producing for the song we created, and I can take the skills I learned from there and improve upon them.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
For my final project I am going to write and record an EP with my band from project 1, Millie and the Floor Gang. I decided to do this as I really enjoyed working with them in project 1, and we worked really well together. So I thought it would be a good idea to work with them again. However this time, I am going to write and record a 3-4 track EP with them. Our roles aren’t fully decided yet, as they will develop as we learn who is good at what parts of this process. However what we have so far, is that me and Ben will be the co-producers, and we will work on producing the tracks together. We will most likely be using the softwate Ableton, as both of us have it. Ben will be the guitarist and the main songwriter, however we will all help. Tom and Millie are the singers and Tom will be the main lyricist, however we will all help, especially Millie. I will be the drummer, and I will be writing the drums for the songs. The genre of the EP is not decided as we all like different styles of music. We will find a way to make it to a genre that we all like and something a bit different. We will have weekly band discussions, where we talk about what has happened in the past week, what we need to do to improve, and what we’ve done well. I will use my weekly evaluations to give me an insight on these things so we can keep improving.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To write a detailed evaluation, I will have to evaluate weekly on the progress we have made. There are many ways I could do this, however I am going to do a write up, as that is what I am most confident in. I will evaluate what we have done on that certain week, good and bad, and what we will do on the next week, also saying how we can improve. These will also not just help me and be part of my project, I will talk about them with my band during our band discussions so we know how to improve. Then at the end of the project I will do a project evaluation as well as a evaluations on all the final versions of the songs.
