This is my evaluation of my Music Marketing portfolio. In terms of my artist portfolio, it went quite well. All of the platforms are set up for us when we want to pursue it further, and it is all consistent. With the logo, biography, and black and white colour scheme being a constant throughout all of it. The alligator photo is something I just put as a placeholder as we don’t have any photos, however, I quite liked it and I think it fits. A platform I could’ve made a profile for is Spotify or a different streaming service. However, as we don’t have any recorded music and aren’t near that point, I decided not to. Another thing this part of the portfolio needed is some content to put onto these platforms. The reason there isn’t anything there is due to personal reasons and the band not being able to get together as much as we want to. This is the reason there are no photos, videos, music, recordings, or social media posts. Photos are the main thing this portfolio is missing, as you can’t connect with the band if you don’t know how they look, even if they hide their identity. This portfolio is ready to connect to and reach audiences, as all the platforms are ready for when the content is made.
The research I did for this part of the project did help with the brand I created. The research helped me understand that with branding, consistency is key as it helps your brand be easily recognised. It also helped me realise that linking everything together, easily done with a linktree, will make life a lot easier for yourself and your audience as everything will be easily accessible.
For the live music marketing portfolio, what went well was the consistency of my promotion. The black and white colour scheme and the simple design make the social media look sleek and consistent. The poster is quite nice, with all the information on there without it looking too crowded. I also created the QR code using a website online. I could’ve printed this poster and put some posters around the college or the surrounding areas, this would’ve got more people to come to the gig, as well it would have made the QR code more useful. I could’ve also created an events specific Facebook, which would have meant another social media page so more people would have heard about the gig. If I created the Facebook account, I could’ve joined a Facebook group such as Bradford Music Scene or another music related one to promote this gig. The Bradford Music Scene group would have been perfect, as it is specifically made for events like mine. To make a live event get to full capacity, you either have to book The Beatles or work extremely hard pushing the event. Unfortunately, I didn’t do enough promotion to get this event to full or near full capacity. Certain things I could’ve done to have a bigger audience were: make more graphics or short videos to promote the event, constantly post on my social media accounts, start the promotion earlier, have a plan for the marketing, and coordinate posts with the artists. This portfolio is nearly ready to connect with audiences, but there are still a few more platforms I need to create an account and an online presence on, I also need to work on my content creation skills and have some more experience in this to be able to get to that point.
My research on this side of the project was also useful, however, my knowledge about this, due to being in a band and playing gigs, was more useful. The research gave me a lot of knowledge about live events marketing, the history behind it, and how it is done today. What I looked at was on a bigger scale, so it didn’t apply to me as much. Recalling back to running my band’s social media pages was more useful to me when I was marketing this live event. Something I could’ve done is research more about the events on a smaller scale and look into a case study so that the research would have applied to me more.
