This project is songwriting, and there are 3 roles in the groups, songwriter, lyricist and producer. My roles was to be the producer. I am in a group with Ben and Millie. Ben is the songwriter and Millie is the lyricist. The songwriter’s job is to create things such as the chord progression, and the instrumentals in the song. The lyricist is the singer and also the singer. My job as the producer is to put the track together and to make it sound the best it can. As a group I think we worked very well together, we all knew our roles and we succeeded in them.
In the first week, we got a rough progression and the lyrics to it. The files that I would share can’t be put on to digital space due to the size of it and them being too big. However I think we made a lot of progress in the first week. We got a rough progression, structure, lyrics and melody. However all of this is just a draft, and is probably going to change and improve. We have a structure of verse, chorus, verse, chorus. The progression also needs work as the chorus sounds too similiar to the verse. The melody also isn’t fully worked out. All of these need to be improved. As there isn’t much producing to do at this point, I was thinking of ways to improve, collecting all the files and making sure everyone was on track.
This week we improved a lot of things. We figured out a good and final structure for the song. Which is: Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, outro. The outro is a mix of the chorus and the bridge. We got a rough draft of the progression but more practice and a better recording is needed. However the melody isn’t fully figured out and we are thinking about changing the lyrics. This week wasn’t as productive as last week, however progress was still made and we are close to finishing the song. My role still isn’t needed, so I was doing the same as last week.
This was the final week on creating this song, and we finished it. In terms of the song we got a finished progression, melody and updated lyrics. They all came together and they all sound really good. I also had a lot of work to do this week, as after the song was finished I had to do the production. This was my first time using Ableton, so this isn’t my best work but I am happy with what I did in the time I had. I had to put the track together and put it in time. Next thing was to change the volume of the tracks so the guitar doesn’t overpower the vocals or vice versa. Then to add reverb and delay. I could’ve done more to this however in the time I had and my first time using Ableton, I am happy with it.
