This is our performance of Somebody that I used to know.
This is our performance of Kids
Individual and group strengths:
When we played Somebody that I used to know, it was quite good. We played all the parts of the song well and kept in time. We all know our parts well now so it is just a case of playing it well together, and in this case we did. I personally think I played my part well. As a group as well everyone did well, no one made any big mistakes, we all sounded good and played well together as a band. Our tempo for this song is good as if this song was any shorter it would drag quite a lot. Our dynamics in this are good at certain times, like in the build but could be improved.
When we played Kids, it was a similar situation, since we all know our parts well, it was just a case of playing it well together, however it wasn’t as good as our other song. The tempo of the song in general is quite good as it doesn’t drag but in general doesn’t sound like it is rushing.
Things to improve as an individual and as a group:
In general for the performance, the way it was set up wasn’t the best, as the keyboard was really quite, it was very difficult to hear, and the bass and guitar could’ve been a little bit louder. The video also isn’t the best as the sound keeps getting muffled, so for the performance we will make sure to fix these things.
The main issue with this performance, for both songs is the actual performance. All of us aren’t communicating with each other, we are just sat looking at our instruments or looking bored or nervous. What we need to do is look like we are enjoying the performance even if we are nervous. The guitarist bassist and drummer should all be communicating and looking at each other, as it makes the song actually sound better because we are more in sync, and to the audience we look more in sync. The singers also need to do more than just stand there, they need to do something to engage the audience as they are front and centre of the band.
For Somebody that I used to know, the dynamics during the first verse and the chorus need to be better, as the verse should be quite and slowly build up then the chorus should be loud, and it didn’t really do that. As the drummer I think I did well at my part and there isn’t much to improve.
For Kids, I didn’t do my best as throughout the whole song it sounded like I was rushing through it and wanting it to end. This was because I was out of time with the bassist, so that is an area we both need to work on. For the last chorus I was a little bit out of time with the guitarist and bassist so that is another thing we all need to work on.
Between now and the final performance, we need to work on our dynamics in Somebody that I used to know. our timing on Kids and the performance and making it feel like a performance and not just five people standing on a stage.
