For this part of the project we are doing an ensemble performance as an audition. I will be doing this performance at a secondary school, with two other people, which are Tom and Meg. We will be doing three songs, which will be Still Beating by Mac DeMarco, She’s Electric by Oasis and Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen. We chose these songs as we had a few things to think about when picking the songs. As we are playing in a school, the songs can’t have any explicit language in, or have any dark themes or anything that isn’t age appropriate. Also school kids are a hard audience, as a lot of the time they don’t care or won’t listen. Their music taste is also a bit different as they are younger usually they’ll either like what their friends do or what is popular. We put this in mind and picked two songs that are quite popular and commonly known and played on the radio a lot. So if they hear songs they have heard before they will be more engaged. The purposes of this are to improve my musical ability, which means learn some new songs and get better at the instruments that I will be playing; also to be able to be a better performer and have more experience in that regard, as well as being less nervous to perform and finally to have an audition, which helps my professional development as if I want to apply to university, or anything that needs a music audition, I will have one. My personal aims for this are to learn the bass guitar, as this is one of my big targets for the year and it is something that I really want to get better at; I also want to improve my performance skills by performing in a different kind of venue, as a school is a different kind of audience and place than doing a normal kind of gig. This part also links in to community music as we are going to a school, which is another community we will be playing music for.
