Final Song and Project Evaluation

This is the song I have worked on in Project 3 and I am proud of it. I worked on it with Ben and Millie. I had the role of being the producer and organiser of the song. So I kept everyone on track, collected all the files and did the production after the song was created.

As a song I think it is a very catchy and good song. Ben and Millie did a good job with the chord progression and lyrics. The song is played in 4/4, and is played at 59 bpm. The structure of the song is verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, outro. I think the song is very well done and to say it was made in 3 weeks, I am happy with it. In terms of producing, what I did is I changed the mixing of the tracks so one doesn’t overpower the other, I added reverb and delay to the guitar and vocals, the guitar had quite a bit of reverb, but not a lot of delay, and the vocals had a moderate amount of both. I made sure that the tracks were put together well and in time. Another thing I did was add EQ to both tracks to make sure they sound good. I think what I did is good in the time that I had and the little experience I have on Ableton, but I could have done more.

Some things that could be improved is the quality of the vocal recording, as even after the editing I did, it was very quiet, you could slightly hear the guitar on that track, and there was a slight hissing on the track. Another thing is that the guitar isn’t played with a metronome, so it sometimes goes in and out of time and isn’t stuck to a certain BPM. That means it is difficult for me to put the track together. I also should’ve spent more time producing, and listening to the track to make it sound better, changing the EQ, adding other effects and changing the mix.

All in all, I think we did a good job as it was online, and making a song online isn’t easy, especially when it’s our first time. I am proud of the work I’ve done and this song.

Songwriting is something that I enjoyed, this project was very enjoyable for me as creating music is a very satisfying thing to do. However if I did it again, I would do more than just the producing and keeping everyone on track. I would prefer to be the drummer in the song, and make and play the drum parts in the song as well as doing some of the production.

I found this project was quite difficult to do, as I had to learn how to use a new software, which was Ableton. To get used to that and use it to a good level was quite difficult. However by the end of the project I got used to Ableton and used it to a good degree of ability. I found working online quite difficult, especially when doing songwriting, as it’s something new to me. So doing something new which was online was very difficult. However it was a good experience and I enjoyed the challenge. I found parts of working online quite easy to get used to such as sending files and getting organised. As this was one of my main jobs, it was important I was good at it. All the files were easily found and they were all organised.

In conclusion I enjoyed this project as songwriting is something new to me, and that was fun. Even though the online working was difficult at times, I overcame all the problems and the skills and experience I got will be useful.

Peer Feedback

Amazing vocal performance

Love the melody of the vocals alongside the guitar (they compliment each other really well), quality is a little rough but it sounds really soft and it’s really relaxing. Catchy chord progression.

Great vocals, like the consistent heartbreak theme, great voice control, could use a bit or evidence because the vocals are loud at certain points, great catchy chorus, love the meaning

Vocals are kinda quiet but work well with the guitar, nice melody

Nice chords and vocals really work together

Nice chord progression

Nice meaningful lyrics with the chord progression to match. maybe add some more work to the guitar and vocal effects in production

Nice use of arpeggios
