This week I worked on my track on Ableton, with the main goal of creating a good bassline and thinking about the drums I am going to add on top of it.
This was my first attempt and the outcome was pretty good. It’s a nice funky bassline that is definitely more of what I am wanting. There’s still more work to be done with it though as it is only a 4 bar loop. It also is played pretty high, which makes it sound less like a bass, so I need to lower the notes while still keeping it in key. The last two bars need some work as I want to change it because I think I could make it sound tighter than what it is at the minute.
This is a first draft at a full song. It has four parts, which are fourdifferent basslines. The structure is, first bassline (first verse), second bassline (chorus), third bassline (second verse), second bassline (chorus), fourth bassline (breakdown), third bassline (second verse) and first bassline (first verse.) This structure has enough variation to make it interesting. However an issue with this track is that apart from the breakdown, the rest of the basslines sound pretty similar. And they are all pretty busy. This can make for a pretty boring song.
This beat isn’t final and I’m not overly happy with it. As the bassline was busy, I found it difficult to add a complex beat over it. So this is all I have so far, it still fits however I would like something that shows off my abilities a bit more.
This is an improvement on the other beat I made. This incorparates a six stroke roll and a normal roll. It also fits with the bass line. It still needs some work as I didn’t have much time this week, but a good idea.
This beat is again a good idea but it still needs some work. The fill fits well with this bass line as it follows it, however it sounds wrong when there’s a fill every time. This is still a good idea that I would like to work on more.
Next week I am going to change up and finish my track, to make it sound better. I will also make and learn the drum parts to the song.
