This week we worked on 2 of the songs, “You” and “Let Go”. We also played our 2nd song, “Last days of our lives” however the song is still the same we just rehearsed it more to make it sound even better. An issue with these videos is that we couldn’t get the keyboard to be any louder so the keyboard is hard to hear in these videos.
The improvements we made to you were adding a guitar to the song. As before it was just piano, drums and vocals. However now with the guitar it adds more texture to the song and fills it out a lot more. As the guitar is only playing chords, an improvement could be that Ben could play something a bit more interesting. However the song is a piano focused song, having more guitar would drown out the piano a little bit. Another small improvement that we made is after the bridge, I play the drum fill earlier while Tom and Millie are still singing. This makes the transitions between the bridge and the chorus smoother and there isn’t an unnecessary bit of silence. However an improvement is that the drum fill that I play, I could change it up a bit so it isn’t the same fill every time. This would make it feel less repetitive. However this song is finished, it just needs rehearsing more.
Our third song, “Let go” was the main focus of this week. As we didn’t have much for this song before this week, it was all drafts. The main things we worked on was the structure, which is now: Verse, chorus, verse, chorus x2. With the last two choruses, the first one starts of quiet and then builds up to where the second one is loud and big. However we haven’t fully worked on this yet so this is just an idea at the moment. The piano and lyrics are the same as before, however the drum beat and guitar are new for the verse. I think they work well together, and they fit the song, however they still need playing more so they sound even better. The chorus also sounds good, as the guitar is playing the same as the piano, and the drum beat is similar. This song in general just needs more playing then it will sound even better.
What we have to work on next week is to play the songs even more so that they sound perfect, as well as the little improvements on the second and third song.
