This week I worked on the research side of my project. I didn’t do as much of the research that I would’ve liked. This is because I didn’t spend much time out of college doing work. This is something that I definitely need to work on, as I will get behind by a landslide if I keep this up.
The research documents that I did was:
Songwriting – This document gave me a lot of tips on how to start songwriting and how to deal with problems etc., and when I start, I will refer back to it. However, all of it was advice, instead of the theory behind it on how to start. I might need to do some more research on the theory side.
Outlier – In this document I analysed one of my favourite drummers, and one of his best pieces. It helped me understand how he thinks when he is drumming, and how he plays with other people specifically the bass.
The meters – This document helped me understand the background of funk. Also it helped me understand the gold standard for a funk track, and what makes a funk track what it is.
This was a bit of a lacklustre week for me, as I planned to do a lot more work than this. The next few sessions will be catch up sessions as I have a lot of work to do.
