Evaluation Week 3

This week most of my time was spent experimenting on Ableton. I created a short track to test my abilities on Ableton. The track came out pretty well, it sounds good and proves to myself that I can make an even better and more musically fun track. However this track could’ve been a basis for my final one, I could’ve made it a funk track and use some of the ideas that I want to have in mu final track. However I had an idea and just rolled with it and this is the outcome

Something that I worked on win this track is the arrangement. I wanted to make it so instruments dipped in and out and it wasn’t the same thing for a long amount of time. As you can see below there’s a lot of changes in this area, as instruments cut out for a few bars then come back in. I wanted to see how each instrument worked with each other and what sounded good. This was fun and sounds decent with this specific tracks, however for a funk track this idea wouldn’t work too well.

I usually started creating the song with the bass, as once I made a good bass line I can build upon this. There are two different parts to this track. The track starts and ends with one part, but the middle part is different. This structure is interesting, and especially with all the instruments cutting in and out it never sounds like anything’s repeating. The track is a bit too long however, due to me wanting all the different arrangements it drags on a bit.

The track just isn’t that interesting to be honest. It isn’t the genre I am working with and the track is already quite busy so there isn’t much room for the drums to be the vocal point of the track. This was fun to make and is a decent track however it isn’t what I wanted to make.

Next week I really need to knuckle down and start on my track, as if I don’t I will get insanely behind. All of my time in college will be put towards making this track.
