Aim
The aim of my project is to create 2 to 3 instrumental song, most likely a funk track, on Ableton Live or Logic Pro X. I will then drum over this track while doing a live performance.
Objectives
Context: look at the history of funk music, the history of technology in music, specifically drums and live performance and some about songwriting.
Plan out how long I will spend on each of the sections, for example 2 weeks on research, 2 weeks on the songwriting and 2 weeks on the performance aspect.
Research songwriting techniques, specific to funk. In addition to this general songwriting techniques as they could aid me just as much.
Research about funk drumming, fills, beats and anything to improve my drumming.
Research about funk music, the bass lines, chord progressions and everything about it.
Research about mixing, get an even better knowledge of how to mix and master a track.
Research about the technology, how the drum pads work by themselves and how they work with an acoustic kit.
Learn and research the software that I will be working on, get comfortable enough to be able to make this song.
Experiment with the software and write the songs.
Weekly evaluations of the progress I have made.
Mix and master the tracks.
Figure out how I will be playing all the songs live, in terms of the drumming as well as if I will be looping parts of the song or just playing them on the pad using the sticks.
Do a live performance of the songs.
Evaluate the final performance, as well as a final project evaluation.
