Ableton

Ableton Live 10 is the DAW that I will be using. However I have only used it once before, which was in Project 3, and I still have a lot to learn about it. That’s why I have picked out this video. This video has 50 tips and tricks in it, however not all will be useful to me.

If you use ctrl and then drag multiple files, it separates them. You can save the plug in you use the most as the default configuration by right clicking on the plug in and clicking the option. Alt and drag to create a bounced version of the track. Use ctrl + alt +b to open the video menu. Use the bass mono in utility. Right click on a track title bar and choose a colour, and all of the tracks will be that colour.

When right clicking chord progressions and harmony instruments, there is an option to convert it to new midi track, which makes it sound better. Hold shift stretch a track out. Use z to zoom in, and x to zoom out. Use the midi stretch bar to have 5 equal notes per beat. Put your favourite plug ins and devices onto an audio or midi track, and save them as default. Use ctrl K to map parameters to your keyboard. For example mapping the capture button to C. Save the presets with shorthand, so you can recall all the same instruments at once.

When pitching vocals use the complex pro, as it can give many different textures. Right click on the “EQ eight” and click on oversampling to give the track a better sound. Record takes by looping a region, by use ctrl L. Hold ctrl and rag an instrument onto another, and you will make an instrument rack. Double click the EQ window to make it bigger for better mixing. Set the default quality of reverb to high, if your device can handle it. Deselect auto-hide plug in window.

Set multiple drum racks to one audio effect by dragging and dropping into the return feature. Use the audition feature on EQ eight to single out EQ notes to find out which ones you want to boost or get rid of. Use Q to activate hot swap, which means when you’re scrolling through effects and devices, it changes on the track.
