Logic Compositions Evaluation

Rock Track

I created a simple bass line using the “Prog Rock Bass”, and drum beat that works with this bass line using the “Retro Rock” drum kit.

I then added a guitar riff which is played at the start of every bar and plays through the whole bar.

I then made it an actual verse and intro to the song, as it starts with the bass for 2 bars, then the drums come in then 2 bars after the guitar comes in. It is played for another 4 bars after that.

Peer review – ‘Rock Track’ uses bass to produce a rhythmic beat, utilising hi-hats to build up a sense of tension for the final synth outro. For a loop this is decent, I feel as though it could be improved, but for a first effort it is decent nontheless. My advice would be to mess around with the velocity of notes to achieve a more interesting and varied dynamic range.

Techno Track

I added a drum beat which is just an open hi hat on every beat of the bar.

I then added a different drum beat which heavily uses ghost notes\

I then added a synthesiser which plays from the lowest key to the highest key, throughout the song and changes every 1 and 3 in the bar.

Peer Review – ‘Techno Track’ uses a crescendo synth effect to achieve a ‘never-ending rising’ sound. This track gets points for being experimental and creative, although to improve I think improvisation skills will play a key factor, in that for the end of the crescendo, a switch up or payoff, or even random sounds would improve the entertainment value and reward the listener.

African Style Track

I added “South African Singers” as vocals and they change every 2 bars and go 1 note up, then back down the original note after them 2 bars, then it is repeated.

I added a “Dynamic String Ensemble” which has the same structure as the singers and is on the same notes.

I then added an acoustic guitar which plays on every beat of the bar and goes up and down from C to D every bar.

Then I added an African drum kit, and played on the djembe, giving it a sound like a bass drum and then an open sound.

I then added a structure to the track to make it sound more like a proper track, and I had different instruments come in at different times.

Peer Review – ‘African Style Track’ is again experimental and uses African instruments to give a more earthly, grounded sound, and gets points for being the most dynamic.
