Evaluation Week 2

This week I did some more research, however I did a lot of practical research as well as written. I didn’t catch up with the research I haven’t done but I will get round to that whenever it’s necessary.

I researched 5 famous and iconic drum beats from funk songs. This was a really helpful document to do, as it helped me understand the kind of drum beats that are used in funk. Playing and learning them made me feel the groove of funk drumming, and why it is so good. As the majority of these beats were really fun and challenging to play, it helped me understand funk lot more as the drumming has a certain rhythm to it. This will help me when I get round t0 making my own drum beat.

I watched a Youtube tutorial on how to create a song on Ableton. This was another really helpful video, it step by step taught me a lot of features about Ableton and how to use them. It taught me the basics of the DAW, such as how to record stuff in and all the basics you need to know. Now that I know these, I can build upon it and start experimenting a lot easier.

This is the work I did this week on Ableton. I figured out how to record instruments using Midi, quantise them and how to set up and some of the shortcuts. This is all really basic stuff as I explained earlier, however learning the basics is key before it becomes really technical. What I created was just to test my abilities and I didn’t have much time to make it. It was just a quick test of what I’ve learnt and how to apply it.

I am happy with my progress this week, I have done some research that will help me in my project. I have learned the basics of Ableton, and next week I will do more work on Ableton and hopefully start my track.
