At the start, we recorded the band as a whole, with the band in the rehearsal room and the singers in the studio room. We did this so there was no spill which means none of the instruments go into the singers mic. To avoid spill in any other tracks, we DI’ed the bass, keys and guitar.
As we had the band in the live room, we set the drums up first, we had two overheads over top of the drums, we also had a mic inside the kick drum and had to be in the middle of it to get the sound which is called a bass mic. The drummer had to wear head phones so they could hear everyone else’s through the head set.
We then plugged it into big box with outlets and inlets. We also use condensers it decrease the frequency, then the snares and toms used dynamic mics, The drum kit went from input 1-6 into the stage box. The headphones went into a headphone amp. Then the bass was DI’ed and put into input 8 of the stage box, guitar was in 9, and DI’ed, and keys were in 10, also DI’ed. After getting a clean take, we overdubbed guitar, with distortion, and the second keyboard part, which was chords to add layers, then the singer got to play around with the melodies.
When the other band was up recording our band was in the studio with the desk mixer we’re we learned how to use the sound or change the sound we also added tracks when we recorded them into logic.
