Games

Initial game plan design.

Why different type of assets are in important in videogames.

Graphics. Graphics are important in video games as they show the viewer what they are looking at like the background may be a blue sky and these types of graphics help set the scene and allow the viewer to see where they are. A graphic is a design or visual art and it allows they provide the viewer something to look at. 2d and 3d games will have many graphics such as textures and logos in the game. They have many graphics in games that show visual art so that you have something to look at that does something if you click it.[Addo, A., 2020]

Audio is used in games to create tension, add emotion and build immersion. The audio in the game help to enhance the user’s experience and immersion in the game. Audio is also used to give feedback to the user when they do an action and audio provides many purposes in games like providing dialogue feedback and to develop a scene with music. Audio is important in games because without it playing the game will feel weird because there’s no feedback and music and you will be losing a big component of the game.[Callighan, E., 2020]

Cutscenes are important in games because the cutscenes help develop the story and narrative. Without cutscenes and film in the video, it would be difficult to develop the storytelling in the game and games that are story-driven have a focus on cutscenes and the film in the game because the cutscene is where you will get a majority of the story from the gameplay. Cutscenes help with immersion as you walk through with the characters and their story with the cutscenes.

Rationale: My game idea is to create a game that you need to reach the end while avoiding traps and there will be an arrow pointing right at the starting point and at the ending point there will be a flag and door. and the objective is for the character to reach the end without being touched by the traps once and there will be power-ups along the way to make the travelling the level easier. The scenery will be a blue sky with some clouds and green fields and the character will need to avoid traps in order to reach the end of the level. The game will have different types of terrain you will need to pass through. The inspiration for the concept of the game is where a robot tries to get to the other castle on the other side.

Project concept: The concept of the game is to reach the end of the platformer level without getting stuck in the traps.

Evaluation: Now that I have created the game, I’ve created a very simple game level with a character and that the character can walk. What I think I did well is the level design and its floating platforms and basic plant design I put into the level. I think that I have created a good simple game that the objective is to reach the end.

What I could have done to make this game more interesting is to add enemies and interactive coins as an incentive for the player. I also needed to make objects like plants and objects to be able to walk through them as the character walks on top of all of them so an improvement is to make the objects not get in the way of the character walking. What I found difficult with creating the game was programming the character sprite to move correctly as it took me a while to understand but eventually I did it. Assigning roles to objects in the game was slightly difficult as I miss clicked the wrong roles but eventually, I corrected them all.
