The short film I created “The infiltration” is a comedy family friendly spy film that has a halfwit spy trying to infiltrate a college for secret data on a festival called deer shed. It’s a film where you see the halfwit spy going through the college mindlessly trying to find a way to gain access to secret data. This evaluation will analyse and critique my short infiltration film.
The Film was filmed in college as it fit the scenario and was filmed on a camcorder and tripod given by the college. The shoot was done in one day as we were strict on time as others in my project needed to do their projects as well during the week. All the camera shots were filmed in natural lighting as we filmed during the day time. I then edited the video shoot in a week cause I finished being in others projects the week before. The Project at college because of the macs and resources. The first 4 weeks of the project we were not able to come into college because of covid-19.
The short film “The infiltration” was a film based around the theme of incognito, so I created a spy comedy movie as spy movies can be closely linked to the theme of incognito. I think I reached my aims which were to create a short spy-like comedy film that was funny and comedic. The film was comedic it was linked to the client which was the deer shed festival. The spy was looking for the data on the deer shed festival. I think I did well introducing the film as there is a text in the bottom left the decodes in and out in the introduction of the film sets the scene. The pan shot also sets the scene as to where the location is. The comedic side of the film like the Spy having to jump over the barriers and failing and the spy getting lost is something I think I did well that adds a comedic element to the film. Also another comedic element I added was the scene changing costume added to the scene so that every time the spy goes out of frame he would be in a different costume to add a comedic element with the music of him being lost in the college building. The ending also is like a traditional comedic spy-like ending where the halfwit spy ends up going to the wrong building failing the mission.
However, there were a few changes that needed to be made when we were filming. The first being that we needed to change where the barrier scene was going to be filmed as it got busy when we did not think it would get busy so we needed to change locations. The video colours are very desaturated and dull as I did not get time to tweak the colours of the film. Now that I look at the film longer the spy getting lost scene is too long for my liking now that I’ve gone over it for a while and the spy goes down a set of stairs without the karate costume so that’s an error I made while filming. I also could have added a scene of the computer screen of him searching and not being able to log into the computer and not being able to find the data. I also know that if I added sound effects to the film it would improve the comedic element of the film. I also will remember in future projects to look closely at the before and after frames of the shot to make sure they are still in the same position as the last and some frames move between shots.
Now having created the film I can see that in some aspects I have created a good comedic spy-like film with what I have been given but there are still some gaps I wanna work on like my videography, filming my editing and time management. I know what I have done well what I could have done better that would improve the film and when I start to do the next project I will look at this project again the see what I could do better in my next project compared to this one.
