Self-Assessment Audit Evaluation

I was tasked with summarizing all I have learned and evaluating my progress throughout the course, making note of the things I have picked up throughout the course and what could be expanded upon further.

When I first joined the course I knew next to nothing about how to build and create a convincing and coherent storyline, among the many things I have learned one of the most notable among them would be when I learned all the possible methods that go into creating a convincing narrative, this is important for me as It is a multi useful tool, as I can use narrative design in both the creation of film and game.

I would say that my progress throughout the course has been large, as I initially joined with little knowledge on a whole host of matters such as camera angles, use of software, filming techniques, sound design, editing, game creation, level design, narrative design, shots, continuity management ect. I learned all these things throughout this course, all of them cultivating and being used in some way for my Final Major Project.

(Various different camera angles I’ve learned.)

One other thing I have made drastic progress on since my enrollment on the course would be my ability to ensure continuity throughout my work, having learned to create time schedules and checklists for each of my projects, making sure that each area of said project is complete within the given timeframe, this is an extremely useful skill which I have picked up and will continue to use within future education and or employment.

Another thing that I have honed and improved since the beginning of this course would be my ability to creating and managing a digital webpage, this much has been learned from my use of Digitalspace, which is the website of which this is currently written on, It has helped me improve on many aspects of how I approach page creation, having helped me understand how digital webpages are made, which can applied professionally if need be.

(My digital space homepage, edited to my liking.)

I personally believe that I may have been able to improve in some areas, as I could have changed the way I approached some of the issues that I have experienced throughout the course, but I also believe I have learned from said mistakes and have grown from them, for example when I joined this course I was incapable of working with others, not from lack of confidence in speaking to others, but I found that I was often overbearing, and a perfectionist when it came to what I was doing, which made it difficult to work with others, I overcame this when I was tasked to work as a team for various different projects, and grew from this experience, being better at teamwork and management, whilst admittedly still needing some more work.

After seeing Ethans Digitalspace of which had a personality test results on it, I thought this was a good idea and decided to do one of my own, of which is seen below.

The personality test dictated that I am a Debater personality, which means that I prioritise rational concepts over emotional ones, which can effect how I do my work as I tend to do it methodically.

This may effect my project as i am somewhat still a perfectionist, especially when it comes to my own work, meaning that I tend to ensure that their are little bugs and glitches, which positively impacts my game.

To continue this I decided to look into different career paths I wanted to go into, these range from Level Designer, Narrative Designer and Character Designer, I looked into the specifications and qualifications generally needed to fill these roles, I also investigated how the field generally works, figuring out that the game creation industry is rather segmented, with many different companies and start-ups, with different games and game companies being made and created constantly, some of these even within Britain, this ties in with exploring new opportunities as I was able to learn and understand how the industry I plan on entering operates.
